Morning. ~O)
still floating in the ugly numbers.
I guess it could be worse. I was expecting higher since she hasn't eaten in almost 11 hours.
She sits here beside me on her mini tower.... I'm getting the cold shoulder. grumph....

I wish my vet opened earlier in the morning.... :YMSIGH:

definitely requesting the Spec fPL test so we can rule that out. It's been exactly 6 months since her last blood work and I am so hoping this
will give us an indicator/pointer to something.
Of course, her numbers could just be arthritis pain.

But she's stopped sleeping with me at night again which is why I initially did the diabetes test.
Somethings not right... and we know she has arthritis but I think she's had that for a long time. She still plays the same ways she always
did when she plays and she 's willing to play once a day at least.
It's hard to judge whether she would play more if the droolers weren't standing there watching her.... desperate to join.
She won't play with them.

So paws crossed for an answer really....
otherwise, I guess we'll have to re-start insulin and see if it's just a sputtering pancreas teetering on the brink....

will visit condos tonite.
after vet, I'll feed shadow and run to work late.

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 vet this am

Paws crossed for a good vetty visit and some answers. You know your kitty and you know if something isn't right. ((((Rhiannon))))

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 vet this am

Sending a TON of good vetty vines your way...I'll be watching for an update!

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 vet this am

I am in tears.
Not for Shadow....
for dealing with Idexx labs.

My vet uses antech labs.... they don't use the Idexx altho' they did have my vet info in the system for the snap spfl in-house test.
My vet has Shadow's blood draw waiting for send off to one lab or the other.
Antech does have their own version but I've never heard any of you say anything about this lab so I was pushing for the TAMU one.

So I ran home to help. To try to set my vet up so that this could happen.
called Idexx and got a wonderfully nice lady named Whitney ( praise to her) who took all my info... found my vet... told me she would call me back...
and then she apparently called my vet , got the secretary who can't authorize setting up an account....
They have to talk to the owner. And he is performing surgery right now.

I called my vet back ( who is just a sub-partner employee) and she's nervous because she can't make those types of decisions. It has to be Bob- the owner.
She's worried about how this gets charged....etc....
so I say I'll call Idexx back and see if I can pre-pay or something....
I get some man who quickly snaps rudely that they won't deal with the owners. And that no one would be calling ME back. So I'm asking why she would
tell me someone would and act helpful.
And it escalates because I'm trying to do all the legwork for my own vet to save him time. Why would he want to set up with some other lab if it's going
to be a hassle for him and I was willing to do as much as I could. He got ruder and hung up on me.

I'll be back ....
I've got one other thing to try.

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 vet update

I've got to make a quick decision.
The other vet in town whom I've never seen does have an IDEXX account.
Should I go take her the bloodwork and send from them.... I'll get a paper copy of the report Or should I just stay with my vet 's lab, AnTech.

The competitor vet says she thought both labs were equally good and that she thinks Antech is just as good as IDEXX.

I've got to go in a few minutes so I doubt anyone will help me make this decision.

IDEXX was so rude to me it's hard to feel good about them at the moment.

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 vet update

I can't help with the decision, but I wanted to post well wishes for Shadow and hopes that you can solve the situation with the labs.

Bad customer service right there being rude to a potential customer.

Well wishes! And hugs to you. :)

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 vet update

well, while I was gone ...
I was able to email and talk with Marje who did recommend the Idexx/TAMU one over AnTech. Her vet uses AnTech too but they mailed it to TAMU.
( which is apparently a cheaper avenue to use so I'll have to get Marje to share how to do that)
I got Shadow's blood and took it to the other vet who has it on it's way to Idexx already and paid too much.... as I expected I probably would but
I just wanted it to happen and didn't have enough time to get more info or else miss the window for it to be in their hands tomorrow.

meanwhile,
vet report: my vet was able to squeeze the cyst on the chin today and got a discharge... Yay...maybe it will start going away and she did approve
of the clindamyacin topical solution to help get it going away completely. Now my cat and I share zit medicine. adult acne... what a pain...

Her anal glands were fine and she fussed a lot about having them even looked at. The vet also shaved a lot of hair away so I can see it when I hold
Shadow standing on my chest. I can see her butt in the mirror ..since she doesn't let me have a direct look.

Got Shadow home and fed... twice. She was very hungry.

I was just so determined to make this happen Today! I normally will only fast her 6 or so hours, not 12 so I didn't want that effort to be futile.

I better get my happy butt to TBP. I'll have to make up 2 hours tomorrow since I'm so late now....

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 second update

Rhiannon! WOOT WOOT! GOOD JOB!!!! Shame YOU had to do it all but that way you KNOW it's done! YARD DANCE!!!!

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 second update

I'm sorry things were so stressful for you today, but I'm glad you got the bloodwork sent off to the lab you wanted. I hope you get good results back. I'm glad they were able to get some discharge from the cyst on her chin. I hope she's feeling better now that she's been home for a while.

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 second update

Hi Rhiannon. What a morning you've had. I wasn't even aware that we could request the vet to use a specific lab nor that there would be a measurable difference in the lab results between various labs. I'm glad that you were able tos get everything taken care of. If I was a criminal and you were a detective I certainly would not want you after me....you are persistent & good for you.

I hope Shadow's numbers get back in line now that his cyst has been drained so he doesn't have to come back on the juice. You're such a good mama bean for him.

Have a great day Rhiannon.

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 second update

When I realized everything you did with the vet visit, making phone calls, going back to the vet, going to a different vet was all done in the space of, what, four hours.....I got tired!!! I with John; I don't want you after me for something. You're RELENTLESS. Awesome job!!!

Thanks for visiting Champ today!! I hope we'll have more visits!!

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 second update

((((Rhiannon)))) what a day! What an excellent mamabean Shadow has (not to mention the rest of your family) :-D

I hope that you get some results back that are encouraging in that they lead to treatment that gets Shadow back to feeling good!

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 second update

okay. i'm a little tenacious.
i just googled it and the vet is only 6.3 miles from my house.
No need to be too impressed. ( afterall, I am supermom  )
Los Alamos is a little town (12k people) and 6k people + or so work at the lab including my dh - environmental engineer...

I was determined to get this test off as it is thursday and they would get it tomorrow and I'll get results back tomorrow supposedly.
Note to self: don't get bloodwork that gets sent off done at the end of the week.... especially on fridays.

I wasn't expecting my vet practice to not be hooked up to TAMU /Idexx and I don't like to fast Shadow for 12 hours....
most bloodwork I'm only willing to do a 6 hour fast....

so I was indeed determined today after fasting the poor cat and realizing it was thursday and the bloodwork needed to be on its way to get there
so it wouldn't sit at fedex over the weekend.... possiblity melting since its hot down there.
Just because I pay for overnight shipping doesn't mean something can't happen in transit especially if it were friday.

and since my surgery is coming on tuesday, having my dd's boyfriends family over tomorrow night to meet for the first time, and a party for my daughter on
sunday by our church for the graduating seniors, and just the other normal life stuff to do and get done....
I think I am a bit in a manic state right now.
I tend to be borderline manic occasionally when there is much going on OR its time to go shopping like at Christmas.
I can spend money better than anyone...   ;-)

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 pmbg 85 YAY!!!

Good Grief! What a day! Most people would have given up half way through that mess. Bless your heart "little mountain mover, Rhiannon!!" I'm sending you tons and tons of good test results and prayers.

Look at the PMBG!!!!  :RAHCAT party_cat :RAHCAT

I can't read your condo anymore... i get tired just reading about all that you get done
take good care my dear... lots of Tuesday vines and prayers. hugs mary and ollie

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 pmbg 85 YAY!!!

Wow, I too am tired reading today's condo. Time to get out for a walk and celebrate Shadow's return to the lagoon.

When I got Neko's acro/IAA test done, I told the vet where it had to go (thanks to another local FDMB member). So it went to Idexx then to another vet labs, then to MSU for the tests. I don't want to think about how many extra handling charges I got billed for. @-) But now we can all hope for good results for Shadow. I'm glad she got her chin expressed - hope that makes her feel better.

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 pmbg 85 YAY!!!

Ok....I'm pooped and I didn't even make a call   seems like your vet should have checked all of this out for you beforehand. They should have done the legwork instead of you. I don't blame you, though.

TAMU specfPL. For some reason, I want to say the test was $68 + my vets fee for doing the blood draw and shipping.

Hope she feels better soon.

Just celebrating that 85 with you!

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 pmbg 85 YAY!!!

I'm afraid to go test... that's about as low as she goes....

i expect it to be 115 ish ....
guess I'll go test and post it tomorrow...
Ni Ni.

gotta clean my house tomorrow after all...

and I didn't add our other fun....
we have sawtooth beetles suddenly in our kitchen... gotta figure out where they are nesting.... I'd rather have weevils than this little critters.
I keep the flour in the freezer to avoid those little buggers.
the county co-op guy said they can come in with any purchase of food.... and survive on the tiniest of crumbs.

Re: 5/2 Shadow ambg 150 pmbg 85 YAY!!!

+4 after that earlier test is 96.

I had to come back for that ....

much better than I predicted.
I guess I should just take her to the vet every day....

now... ni ni.

Rhiannon, you are my hero! What a wonderful advocate you are for your dear Shadow. :YMHUG: Sure hope you get rid of the pests in the kitchen and manage all the other zillion things going on over the next few days.

I just came by to tell you this: I've never met anyone named Rhiannon until you, but earlier this week I read a YA novel called "Every Day" by David Levithan, and guess who one of the main characters was? Rhiannon! How cool is that?
