Re: 5/2 Merlin AMPS 301

I am suppose to do a curve this Sunday at AMPS, +5, +9, and PMPS. His numbers sure shot up yesterday. I thought I would provide the food for that day and see if there is any correlation. Don't know if there is a coincidence with giving him the Wellness Turkey though. I have been jumping between approximately four low carb foods so maybe I should stick with just one. They are all low carbs and coincidentally kind of low Phos DM. Fortunately, Merlin will eat about anything.

I sure love that feeder. He is eating at 1:30am and 3:30am and am closing the unit at 4:30am so I can give him his shot at 6:30am. I sure wish I got this feeder earlier.

I have a question. Merlin threw up (stomach acid) just before I was to test him for his PMPS. In reading on Tanya's website, this is a symptom of CKD. Anyway, before his shot, I gave him some food. He didn't eat very much, maybe a tablespoon and then stopped. Then I put some dried chicken on it and he ate a little more. So my question is; how much food should he have before I give him a shot? Was a tablespoon enough? I ended up adding more water so it was more watery and he ate a little more so I ended up giving him his insulin. So I think I am ok but wanted to know how much should he have to eat before it is safe to shoot?

Also, I found that he throws up that stomach acid when he hasn't eaten in a while. I usually give him food almost every two hours. This time, it was probably more like 3 maybe four hours since he ate because he was sleeping. I probably should have woken him up but he seemed to be feeling pretty good throughout the day and very content to sleeping a little longer than he usually does during the day.

Some of my civvies will vomit if they go too long without eating.

Pepcid, 1/4 tablet may help if the stomach is upset. Chase with a good mL of water so the tablet doesn't stick in his throat or dissolve it in an oral syringe with some water. Give about 20 minutes before feeding.
