Not too bad this morning. We are seeing less yellow, but man, it is slow going. I upped her dose yet again last night...we are now on F4.75. I can't believe it. I think I will cry if I have to cross over the 5U mark. Is it possible for a cat, 2+ years into diagnosis, to suddenly develop one of the dreaded high-dose conditions? I know we're not quite there yet, and all of these increases started when I changed her fuds, but at this rate I can't help but wonder...

Aside from the continued need for more juice, she seems perfectly fine...snuggly, 5ps, etc. She has been drinking a bit more water than usual, though, I suspect because her BGs have been running higher than she's used to.

I'm refilling her juice today. I'd be shocked if the current juice is less than optimal, as with this high of a dose, this pen is less than a month old. If we're still on this high of a dose once this new pen is up, I'm going to switch to the vial...I think it will be more cost effective.

I've got fuds shopping for both beans and kitties in store for today...yay! Have a great one, LL!

Morning Amy, paws and fingers crossed and vines that Trixie really likes this dose! So does it seem like the Wellness Turkey is helping somewhat? So far, so good Miss Trixie and let's see a nice slide today. You mentioned changing to the vial. I really get my money's worth from it, as I'm now past my 4th month. I will be getting a new one first of the month though. Have a great day with both Bean and fuds shopping.

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

Hooray for blue! and I think it is possible for a kitty to all of a sudden start on the rise... I have a friend who is going through the same thing. She had a minimal dose and now is on 4u if not more, She too can't get out of the higher numbers. so odd when she was green for the longest time. I think so too - on the increased water intake. Mannie would do that - I could alwyas tell when he was on the rise, or staying in higher BG's - he drank more.

Good luck too on the juice. and the more cost effective thing. I so hear you on that.

Enjoy that fuds shopping!

I've been going with the Chicken so far, but I think I'll get some Turkey today. I can't remember if she likes the turkey, though! It's hard to say if the food is making a difference or not.....

Yeah, I should probably switch to the vial...4 months out of a vial is definitely more cost effective! I went through 2 vials early on, but we were such newbies that we tossed them after the standard 28 days, and that was brutal! But now I know much more than I did back then - it probably makes more sense to go with the vial.

Hi Amy, that's a nice pre shot there at 159! I hope Trixie will like the Wellness Turkey. For some reason Mags won't eat the WC! And now since I found the correct WT, she won't eat the Cowboy Cookout. :? Hope you got all your shopping done today.

Lovely blues tonight Trix, how bout a little bit lower for your bean?

When Neko was a big gulper (got up to 8.75), I still preferred the convenience of the cartridge (pen refill). I still get paranoid about dropping the insulin. But our pricing is much different than yours so maybe vials are more cost effective for you.

As for the high dose conditions coming later, I don't know the answer. But one of the most common early symptoms for an acro is EXTREME hunger and interest in non appropriate foods (my little bread/muffin fan for example).

Hi Amy,
We're going through something similar to what you're going through right now. I, too, can't figure out why Rusty is in higher numbers and why he seems to need more insulin. Rusty has had two very mild bouts of pancreatitis (the last one was in the early autumn) and he has chronic lung congestion that seemed to get worse (but is lots better since we started him on Allerplex, thanks to Marje's suggestion), but otherwise is totally fine, just like Trixie. I wonder if age has anything to do with it? Do you know how old Trixie is? (We have no real idea how old Rusty is, but I figure he is about 12 or 13.) I have been feeding him proportionally more FF T&G than I used to, but that is because when he had pancreatitis it was the only thing that he ate enthusiastically (and he still is more enthusiastic about it than about Wellness Turkey and Wellness Chicken, his staples). He really liked the Paw Lickin' Chicken when we first tried it, but has cooled off about it (now that I went out and bought 2 cases!). He only gets it occasionally now.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that although Trixie's dose is higher than Rusty's, they seem to be undergoing similar changes, perhaps in metabolism. (Rusty's new dose is a fat 1.75; I inch up by drops, but am considering doing a "real" .25 increase to see if that will jump start him).

Good luck to us! Enjoy the evening,

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Maybe part of it is age and a changing metabolism...I don't know. She should be around 11-12ish, but I can't say that for sure. We actually knew her previous owners, but they were also batcrap crazy and horrible, horrible people. But, they told us she was 3 when we took her from them. However, she seemed to still be growing...she's a small cat, but is significantly larger than when we took her.

She went through one other phase like this, a year an half ago. We lost power for 23 hours, and that almost seemed to trigger a weird reaction...all of a sudden she started needed a LOT more juice. We finally it a break through somewhere over 4 units (I can't remember how much it was), then she dropped down to F2.5, where we sat for a very long time, until this past March, when we started messing with her diet because of early renal issues.

She luvs the Paw Lickin', but I had to try something different, to see if we could get better control over her numbers. Fortunately, she loves the Wellness, too. The bean isn't so fond of it, but what can ya do when you've got limited options?

At this point, I just want to hit some sort of break through. I don't like her spending so much time in the yellows...it's totally counter-productive to what we've been trying to do with the low(er) phosphorous fuds...

Hi Amy! That +2.25 is more of a turquoise than blue! I hope she hits the grass here soon! Have a nice Monday and thanks for the visit :-D
