I start the phosphorus binders today, so I hope that helps. Another factor is I stopped feeding her the FF Salmon and Ocean Fish pates, but she doesn't much care for the FF Turkey and Giblets or Mixed Grill pates. However fish is way too high in phosphorus to continue it.

????? On another possibility, I just read that secondary parathyroidism can result from advanced CKD. I wonder if that is what TiTi has, and if so, should she be on methimazole. ?????

Kathy, methimazole can upset their stomach so check with vet if this continues. Also, Elmo is hyperthyroid (on methimazole for almost 2 years) and aging kidneys . My go to food he continues to love is Whole Earth Duck pate ( 4 carbs, phos 130) . Other foods you might try are Holistic Select Chicken or Turkey and Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken ( although I only use this as last resort cos Elmo is sensitive to the carbs in it ...ECID).

Thank you for reminding me. My vet assured me that an allergic reaction to Methimazole is rare. what I am seeing is nausea and some vomiting. If she cannot tolerate Methimazole, there are no other options. She has CKD, which means neither I-131 nor surgery are options. TITI really looks sick. I gave her her morning fluid, sub-q, and 1/2 a cipro tablet, and, on today's advice by the doc at my veterinary hospital, I gave her cerenia-9mg. This has not improved her appetite at all. So I syringe fed her some a/d and followed it with aluminum hydroxide (a phosphorus binder).
I really do not know what else I can do. Perhaps the combination of Diabetes, acro, CKD and hyper thyroid are simply too much for her to survive.

A/D is fairly low on phos. It is the food of last resort with Gizmo. I would suggest letting her free feed on the a/d. Worst case, let her have her favorite with the phos binde mixed in. Got to get her to eat.

The Whole Earth Duck is a huge hit with Gizmo. It is in stock at Petco.

:bighug::bighug:

TiTi's phos level is probably contributing to the nausea.

Yes, probably. I can't separate out what is causing which symptom, because there are so many similar symptoms in her kaleidoscope of illnesses. I am so discouraged.

Our acros are tough kitties. :bighug: Neko didn't have the hyperT, but she had small cell lymphoma and heart disease in the mix, and still managed to have some good times. Since you are addressing the hyperT, maybe that means she's not as hungry now.

I sure hope so. Last night she was fine, and this morning won't eat. Well I've used that powdered probiotic, which she loves, and she licks it off and eats a tiny bit of food as well.

I’m so sorry, Kathy,that things are rough with TiTi right now . :bighug::bighug::bighug: A back up to the oral methimazole is it in a transdermal cream you can get thru a compounding pharmacy . That would solve the upset tummy if caused by the meds . Sending feel better prayers to TiTi and hugs /prayers to you :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I second the transdermal cream so you can eliminate that from the equation of what could be causing the tummy upset. If you decide to go that path, get syringes not twist pens.

Kathy, I would seriously check with your vet on Monday about switching to the transdermal cream you apply to the inside of the ear . Methimazole making them vomit/sick to their stomach is one of the listed side effects . From the start I was instructed by homeopathic vet to give Elmo the remedy Nux Vomica 3x a week to help his body rid the toxins from the drug . There are options so don’t give up hope :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yes, that's my hope. TiTI has none of the other side effects, so, the transdermal may help. But she's still losing weight, because she's eaten only1/3rd of a can of A/D. And she really cannot afford to lose another ounce. I just hydrated her, so that helps, but it's a long time to Monday and even longer to the transdermal. I'm not sure she'll make it.

Prayers for TiTi. :bighug::bighug: I hope the transdermal helps. I'm on the Hyperthyroid Cats on facebook. They may be able to help you too. They often recommend the transdermal when the pills cause tummy upset. Keep up with the syringe feeding until she's eating on her own again.

Agree with Dyana on syringe feeding , Kathy . It has saved my kitties many times . Praying for strength for TiTi and peace for you :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: TiTi will make it to Monday and prayers that transdermal will be easily , quickly acquired. Hang in there, sweet Momma Bean :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
