Edit: Still using Relion Ultima until Bayer Contour strips get here.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday, I was babysitting and still not feeling well so by the time I managed to get on the computer all I was able to do was update Racci's ss. The day before was spent running around town again searching for her food. I don't know what I'm going to do if she doesn't decide to eat something other than BG by Merrick! Only one place carries it in town and they were out of her flavor in the small cans and the larger cans for some reason do not smell the same so she won't eat them! I ordered them online but they're not here and won't be in time before I run out again! This canned food has turned into such a nightmare with her even though it's resulted in low bg's. It's killing me.

I thought I posted 5/17 but can't find it. Racci has not been feeling well between being constipated, then too loose and that infection/sore again. It looked like it was getting better but not sure. She's cranky so will have to get her in some really good light to look again. It could just be that I babysat yesterday and she hates that and hid in the closet most of the day. I had to give room service for meds and food. And I was gone a lot the day before and had to feed her food she didn't like.

I'll try to get back on soon. Have to go over the shopping list with DH so he can go tomorrow. TTYL

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64

I got a good look at Racci and her sore is improving but it looks like it will still probably need antibiotics. I'm debating putting some neosporin on it after cleaning with the Veterycin until she can get to the vet even though she said to keep her dry the last time. I can see a little pus in it. Does anyone have an opinion on whether that's a good idea? Or I can just continue to clean her with the Veterycin cleaner which helped last time alone after antibiotics, until she gets there like I already am instead. What do you think?
Her numbers, peeing and playing are all good. She doesn't want to take a poop probably because it hurts to be cleaned so I think she's holding it since she's farting for a while before she goes.

Thanks!

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

Never heard of the Mycin, but I think due to the placement of this wound, I would talk to the vet again, at very least! I feel so bad for her, it must be so so un comfortable!!! Poor baby! Do you give her any Miralax?? It worked for both my cats & Moonie still gets it..
Looks like her upset hasnt affected her numbers though!! She is doing well with her bg.
Saying a healing prayer for Racci, hope she feels better tomorrow-
You are such a good bean, give yourself a Hug! Tey to have a peaceful evening--Hugs & love from us!!

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

I don't recall where the sore is? Gus recently had an infected sebaceous cyst which burst open and was pretty full of pus. The vet said NOT to put neosporin on it. She put him on ABs and then I used "Rejuva Spray" on it and put warm compresses on it and it healed very nicely.

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

Hi Roni,

Yes, Racci gets Miralax 1/4 tsp bid every day since she's usually constipated but I don't think that's the problem. She was a little loose on her last movement, not very, but definitely not constipated. I think she's just holding it till she can't.

I know it must feel terrible! I feel so bad for her too. I've been trying to be gentle cleaning her but just touching seems to hurt. She's so good about it too. I just hope the vet will prescribe over the phone and not make her go back in. She gets so upset traveling there.

Thanks for your input Roni. I just wanted to do something more for her but it is close to the anal area again. I wonder if anxiety/stress has anything to do with her getting this? She seems to get it back when we have stressful (for her) visits like the cleaning ladies or my DGS.

Well, thanks again, ttyl!

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

Hi Celi & Marje,

Thanks for the healing vines, Celi and the visit & sympathy. I'll give little Racci an extra love for you too.

Marje, it's very close to her anus. The last time she got it, the vet said it was from being too wet all the time with all that hair and sweating and keeping her tail tucked in like she does. I've been keeping her butt shaved since then & keeping her as clean as possible. She said it started out like prickly heat but turned into a strep type of infection.

I have Racci trained to call me when she uses the lb so I can clean & powder her & it's worked but now she has a sore just overnight again after babysitting for 4 days in a row. I never heard of Rejuva Spray but will look it up. The Veterycin is a flush in spray bottle for infections and wounds and is okay for use inside the body in case it gets inside the anus. It is not an antibiotic or steroid. She had a steroid/antibiotic blend first last time plus a script for ab's. I'm having a hard time thinking of the name. It started with a B. Bioxin?

I guess the neosporin is out if your doctor said that, Marje. It's probably the same thing - an open infection, though I know cysts really can open wide and this is little now but it was bigger & more open. It's getting better, it's just taking a long time and I don't want remnants hanging around to reinfect again.

Thanks so much for the input, everyone! I can't believe the time. My stomach is still crummy so I fell asleep again. I'm just not sleeping nights and Racci is still sleeping now. I had wanted to get a +7 and now its too late. :YMSIGH: She's probably going to wake up starving at the wrong time - too close to her PMPS! I hate when that happens. I feel so mean making her wait so I get a good test. I usually wind up feeding a little and she looks at me like I'm crazy and refuses to leave her feeding spot. What do you do when that happens?

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

I wouldn't use the Neosporin if the vet wants you to keep the area dry. The Neosporin is an ointment and may keep the area too moist. I'd touch base with y our vet to be sure.

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

Hi Sienne,

I'll just continue doing what I am with the flush and keeping her clean and dry, thanks. I had thought the pus was gone but today I saw some more & I decided she did need the ab but of course her vet is not in so I'll have to wait till Monday, but that's what had me thinking of the neosporin. You're right though, the ointment is sticky.

I'm just dreading that 45 minute drive each way with her stressed to the max, crying the whole way. The last time she was breathing open mouthed all the way home. I hope she'll just let her have the antibiotics called in to the drugstore. I wish vets weren't allowed to sell meds!

Thanks for the advice, Sienne.

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

So sorry for Ricci having that sore. I think you are right in the flush & keeping the spot clean. Is that watrm water you are using? Is not anal sac infection, right? If its an anal sac, definitely Ricci will need ab because the pus will keep coming up. Hope Ricci gets well soon.

Re: 5/19-Racci-AMPS-185, +4-64 question

Hi Helen,

Racci needs to have her anal glands expressed often because they block and infect but that's not what this is unless she has a slight case of that with this again. If I bring her in to the vet, I'll ask her to look and express them if needed. This is a different infection on the outside of the anus on the side of it. Poor Racci always seems to need antibiotics though! I hate giving her so many abs.

I'm about to give her meds and food now. BRB.

Thank you.
