So the Vet called back regarding Curry's pre-dental blood results. All looked good except her WBC...which was elevated. Didn't get the exact number as I was at work and in btwn seeing patients. Will pick up the results at noon...Just for my own knowledge. Back on Feb 1st when I had Curry in to see the vet right after the intercat aggression issue the bloodwork was fine.

Vet sd WBC usually isn't elevated w/just gingivitis but its possible. She was comfortable going ahead with the dental. There might be something else going on dental wise w/Curry. She'll give an antibiotic if they need to do an extraction. She sd that she probably would not if it was just gingivitis. Wld probably have Curry come back after the dental to get yet another blood test to check the WBC.

I also rd that if a cat is extremely stressed that it can cause an increase in WBC.....It was difficult for this Vet to get the blood from Curry...my other Vet usually can snag it right away.....(I kinda doubt this is the case though)

So I'll just monitor my little furry kitty until Monday....D-Day (Dental Day). Do the dental and hope that resolves the elevated WBC issue.

Re: 5/19 Curry AMPS~96 blood results: elevated WBC

Good morning Tena and Curry! I hope you get some answers to the elevated WBC. Curry is looking very nice today!

I hope you have a great great day!

if the vet puts her on antibiotics following the dental that should take care of it, regardless of the source. hopefully, at least!

she sure is having great numbers this morning! have a good day.

Julie, you brought up a good point. Thank you.

This Vet is pretty aggressive when it comes to treating. Since Curry isn't having any other visible issues I'm thinking that she's wanting to wait until the dental to see if a dental problem is the "root" cause. But I didn't ask why she didn't put Curry on an antibiotic now....I was too rushed while at work...the ole brain wasn't thinking.....I can ask when I go pickup her bloodwork. My guess is that she wants to rule out dental issues before starting to treat the infecion.

I went back and looked at Curry's ss and noticed her insulin need trending a bit higher since mid-February. Just thought she was needing more cuz her ole Mr. P was having a difficult time or her asthma was impacting her numbers. Maybe an dental infection was brewing.

Hi guys .. lovely numbers for curry today .. I hope that the dental takes care of the elevated WBC and I agree, the antibiotic should take care of any infection .. hope the next round of blood work is back to normal .. have a great day guys!

Re: 5/19 Curry AMPS~96 blood results: elevated WBC

So I got the results for the recent blood tests and compared to Feb. 2, 2011 (a week after feline intercat aggression issue began). While her WBC in Feb wasn't high it looks like that's when this issue began to show itself since there was a slight increase in her neutrophils and a slight decrease in her lymphocytes then. I'm glad I decided to take her in now to get whatever it is resolved. Paws crossed that is only a dental issue that be dealt w/out complications.

May 18,2011............................Range
WBC...........16.5 (HIGH)............3.5-16.0

Neutrophils...14850 (HIGH)...........2500-8500

Lymphocytes..660(LOW)..............1200-8000

Feb. 2, 2011
WBC..............11.5

Neutrophils......9430(HIGH)

Lymphocytes....1150(LOW)

Re: 5/19 Curry AMPS~96 blood results: elevated WBC

On Tanya's CRF Site:
If a cat undergoes a stressful blood draw, the test results may show a high neutrophil count (an increase in segs rather than bands) with a low lymphocyte count; in such cases, you might also see elevated CK levels.

Hi Tena, I hope the dental will resolve Curry's high counts with the labs. The Vet mentioned Maggie's gingevitis may be causing her higher bg. It sounds like you have a great Vet and good interaction. that's so important with our kitties.
