Gem has been diagnosed with Cushing's disease. Because Gem is very prone to serious skin tears, Karen is very limited in the amount of testing she can do. She has been testing urine glucose in addition to BG where possible. She has been asking some very good questions on her Health threads regarding her SS, dose, and feeding. A few people have popped in over there and been very helpful, but I have also suggested that she post here to get more eyes and more ideas. She is not able to do TR with the amount of BG testing she is doing, but she could use input. Please welcome Karen and Gem and help as much as you can as Karen tries to help Gem through a complicated disease. Thank you, LL.

The testing itself does not cause a problem to her skin - no problem with her ears!
The problems come from just holding her - if she struggles even just a little, a tear is possible. Luckily, it hasn't happened in a while, but the danger is there, so I give it one or two tries and then let her go.

Even in the best of health, Gem was never wild about us touching her paws, so I can't imagine trying it now :) Plus, she's not really grooming, and she's peeing all over the place, so keeping the paw pads clean would be a concern.

I appreciate the suggestion - nothing is easy with Gemmy!
