Morning-

Pedro was up and about early listening to the birds.
Talked with the vet last night. Pedro tested postitive for Cushings. In addition his pancratitis number was higher this time than the first time he was tested.

So I'm just trying to digest the new diagnosis. If we opt for the next step it will be to do an ultrasound to see if there is a tumor on the adrenal gland(s) and look at pancreas and liver and any signs of tumors elsewhere. Will probably take this step.

Pedro at Day 5 ! yay!!! :thumbup
((Amy)) I am totally surprised that it cam back Cushings....but you know, it's good that you had the test done so now you "know" what you are dealing with. That is s positive thing, no? :YMSIGH: The ultrasound is noninvasive and that is a good step IMHO.
Sending HUGS to you both ....there is much to read and much to think about....
How is he eating? Guess it's good to be back home again....his numbers are looking good though....

Sorry to hear about the Cushings diagnosis. But like Pat said, at least you know what you're dealing with. We'll be thinking of you!

I am also sorry to hear about the Cushings and I also have to echo what Pat said...at least you know what is going on and you can deal with it. Sending positive good vines to Pedro and a (((Amy))) your way.

I also gotta say YEA PEDRO...you've made it to day 6!!! WOOHOO!!!

Great numbers for Pedro. I'm surprised at the Cushing's result, as well. I was looking at this site for info on Cushings and they note that FD is hard to control in a cat with Cushings. If you've not seen this site, I think it may be helpful. (You have to follow all of the links re. treatment, etc. and look toward the bottom for the info on cats.)

((((AMY_PEDRO)))) I'm sure you could use some HUGS, and am sorry the test was positive, but at least they can start treating it soon..
Look at Pedro, he made it to day 6!! That's fantastic!!
I'm sure he will be fine, and know with a momma bean like you he will be well cared for--
Every set back is a set up for a come back...And Pedro is coming Back!! HUGS~!!!!

Sorry that Pedro's results came back positive. I have a dog with cushings. It can be a challenge at times but she's doing well and I'm sure you and Pedro will get through this as well.

(((Amy & Pedro))) I am sorry to see the Cushings diagnosis....and I am sure you are sad....but, truly it is better to fight the known then the unknown. You handled the FD diagnosis, now it is Cushings....but I know you can do it!

Thoughts and prayers to you and Pedro.

I have been doing as much homework as possible on this. There is very little out there on cats. Many thanks for the links. (Merivista has been my go-to source for many things.)
Pedro has had many of the symptoms but they also mimic diabetes. When he got his diabetes dx last June we took him in because of his weight loss, lack of muscle tone, hair not growing back, drinking lots of water and lots of peeing.... So here we are a year later with the possibilty of going OTJ but now a dx of Cushings - how strange is that? I know this is sooo much better than the situation for the hi-dose kitties but geez - I need to whine. Wish there was a forum for Cushing kitties - but it would be a tiny one - looks like there are all of 4 of us here. Between FDMB help for Pedro's diabetes and help for my Brandy's (GA) CRF - this board has been unbeatable. I'm at a loss for the Cushings. My vet consulted on the Cushings dx and got kudos for the dx as they said it is so rare - they hadn't seen a Cushing's kitty in 5 years.

Here is what I have learned so far: Cushings is pretty rare in cats and is usually often only found when a cat has diabetes and isn't regulating and so further testing is done - and that's when they find the Cushing's dx. I think that in that instance it is often a pituitary tumor vs one on the adrenals. It just doesn't seem like there are good treatment options for cats.

(Cushings in dogs is a different beast - maybe just because it has been so widely researched and treated. Last year my dog went through months of issues before finally getting her Cushing's diagnosed and under control and then two months later I lost her in surgery for a tumor on her spleen.)

there is very little on cushings for cats vs cushings for dogs. We decided to treat our dog holistically since she is so old and the drugs are so harsh and expensive. We treat her with Supraglan and I know they make one for cats with cushings as well. It might be an option depending on what your vet says.

I am sorry for the diagnosis, but do agree with all said here that now at least you know what you are dealing with. I wish you and Pedro well. Hugs to you both. It sounds like you have a great vet - that has to be comforting.

:YMHUG: So sorry to hear about the dx. As many others have said, it is better to know at least. Hang in there! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

I have to say that you can't fight what you don't know.
Now that you know, you can arm yourself and you will be able to work with your vet, who sounds great, to take good care of Pedro.

(((Amy )))

If you haven't already, you might want to post in the High Dose forum, there is some experience with Cushings there.

Managing the BG is probably still a big part of it, so he's doing great there.

wow, what a surprise. I'm sorry about the diagnosis.

And HOW did I miss that Pedro is on Day 6? I've been distracted the last few days, obviously I need to get back onto the board, I missing too much!

very surprising, so sorry about the dx, Amy.

Sending (((hugs))) to you both, Pedro doing well on trial!

(((Amy))) (((Pedro)))

So sorry about the Cushings Dx but to echo everyone else, 'at least you know'. Pedro's numbers look great and you have a wonderful vet on your side. That said and with all of your FDMB cheerleaders, you've got tons of support and you will get through this :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
