Hello all- just got off phone with vet office. My regular vet is out today, in tomorrow-Wednesday. I am on Wednesday's drop off appointment list (he is booked solid with other appointments) & before I drop off, he is to call me to discuss: IAA, ACRO, Pancreatitis, ultra-sound, Levemir pscpt. Once we talk, we will be able to outline the plan & procedures.

***Lanky just had a BM where he was hopping around (like his behind was on fire) & chirping, got into the LB & pooped: mostly firm stool with some pudding, dark brown. We've not had this happen before. He is just laying on the kitchen floor now & is very affectionate & purring.***

Back to vet: If necessary, I can make an appointment for today with another vet &/or take Lanky in as an emergency if we must have something started or done today. Please advise. Otherwise, my regular vet is excellent at accommodating my needs and circumstances. AMPS is cycle #3 @ 7U. If Lanky repeats history, we may have some action today. I am home & available to do whatever needs to be done.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327 Vet info

Is Lanky not acting like himself? I thought you were wanting to get the IAA/acro and pancreatitis testing done vs. Lanky being sick.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327 Vet info

I like the idea of waiting for his regular vet. If something comes up and you feel it is an emergency then you could go then and opt for not regular vet.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327 Vet info

You got that #3 cycle down. :-D
I feel like e a very good couple of days coming. Vetty bean appointment look-see and tests, dose topped out to where I don't feel comfortable pushing hard like I have been -- until test results are back, that should make others more comfortable. If he has a blue cycle then a bounce, we'll wait it out and see, by that time -- test results will be back and we soldier on.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327 Vet info

Clarification: Lanky is not acting sick. He just did a pooper number I have not noticed before. I wanted to mention on the record so I'd remember it. And, if it meant anything I figured someone would say so.

Also, if someone believes the testing(drawing blood) needs to begin today rather than wait until tomorrow with our regular vet, I can start working on that too. I prefer waiting for reg vet because he knows Lanky so well and because he is so supportive & able to work thru any office bureaucracy.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327 Vet info

As long as he's doing fine, wait for your vet. The only factor to keep in mind is that if the tests for IAA/Acro are being done at MSU, the samples are run only once a week. You need to time the delivery so the sample is there. You might want to check with Gayle/Oliver/Shadoe about this. She has all of the details or can direct you to where the info is. There are, apparently, some quirky things about the shipping that are worth knowing.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327 Vet info

Sienne - I may have to go to Gayle for this but do you know if the the IAA/ACRO test at MSU is the IGF-1 (Insulin Like Growth Factor-1, code 20005)? Is there just one test or is there a suite of tests? The MSU brochure state the test purpose is 1) acromegaly & 2) dwarfism. I am searching to find out what/if other tests need to be run. I figure the more homework I do, the better for the vet just in case.

IGF-1 is to test for acro. see viewtopic.php?f=12&t=375, scroll down, there's links to both tests there.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327, +6 217

Sub Vet returned my call & scheduled Lanky for a drop-off appointment tomorrow Wednesday with our regular Vet. He suggested doing ultra sound 1st (80% accuracy in dx'g pancreatitis), then do IAA/ACRO testing as needed. I said for sure I want to do the IAA/ACRO tests. Sub Vet had information in hand that I fax'd earlier. Interestingly, he agreed Purina DM has less quality protein but highly recommends it for complete FD nutrition saying carbs aren't the only factor to be concerned with. I told him I was using 2 & 3% carb Fancy Feast & he just said Hmmm. So I will drop Lanky off in AM with equipment box in tow (clearly marked & separated lo & higher carb food just in case, his ReliOn meter, batteries, & strips so we can continue to compare apples to apples in the BG testing department, and his SS). Sub Vet specifically requested that I bring an updated spreadsheet. He is clearly intrigued with the data.

I'm guessing I will be suffering separation anxiety tomorrow & won't know what to do with myself while Lanky is away. Other kitties & Dad will reap the benefits. I'll probably pick him up later in the afternoon and certainly in time for PMPS routine.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327, +6.5 184

I like the "hmmmmm". Glad he mentioned SS -- I had meant to say be sure to take SS.
True to his pattern Lanky went blue.

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327, +6.5 184

I note how smooth (nicely paced decline) today's curve is from +2 thru +7 so far. Is this significant or indicative of anything?

Re: 5/18 Lanky AMPS 327, +6.5 184

It could be. I'd have to see several cycles repeat themselves (not necessary consecutively but within the same dose) to be sure.
I just have this feeling that trying Lev might be a very good idea. I'm leaning heavy on Lanky NOT being IAA or acro, I'd really like to get it on or off the table though. I'm an eternal optimist.
You know, if he is IAA or acro he's still the lovable Lanky and you'll be right by his side. Did I ever give you Black Kitty's SS, he was IAA and went OTJ.
I love Black Kitty and have the opportunity to visit him on occasion. At one point he was getting 45u of insulin a day.

Here's his OTJ party link -- it shows how sick he was.
