WTF? Cobb progressively climbed throughout the night. I had to skip giving him any R because of a baby situation. I see I'm probably regretting that now. He didn't really seem all that interested in breakfast either. He kinda growled when I put it down for him. But it is raining and thundering here, so maybe that has a little to do with it. I'll keep an eye on him today.

Good morning Suzanne, yes this sugar dance at times can be very frustrating for the bean as well! Sorry you had to miss the R last night but I'm sure Cobb will see prettier colors today and I pray that the storms pass quickly and he's back to eating well. ;-)

Hi Suzanne, you have a lot on your plate. Sorry about the r situation, but you need to care of your baby too. Sending prayers for Cobb. Thunder upsets my cat a lot.

Re: 4/18 Cobb AMPS 448(4uR) +1.5 413

Breakfast has been eaten. Cobb was starving at +10 so I gave him some no carb that I have sitting around. I wonder 1. Is it really no carb? According to the list, it is, but...who knows? 2. Maybe he wasn't hungry two hours later.

Anyway, he's eating and BG is coming down at +1.5.

Hi Suzanne,
I haven't visited for a few days and hope that all is well with Cobb, Matty and you and DH. Looks like one of those frustrating days (that we all know too well), but I'm sure that Cobb will continue the downward slide and that he will eat better. Weather does indeed have a lot to do with how we feel and act, why should it be different for cats?

Have a fine day,

Ella & Rusty

argh - we hate days where he's high like this. Looks like the R is doing the trick now and he's on his way down.

I think this does say that there wasn't anything wrong with the Lantus pen you were using before. No dramatic change since you switched pens. I would probably increase the L again in the morning. Are you thinking about that?

hang in there - sending you lots of mental support. hehe i googled "support cat" and this is what i got. Apparently Cobb is in progress of fixing things:

Yes, I'm finally seeing what I feel like is a good response from the R. I haven't felt that way lately.

I'm thinking of increasing tomorrow night. Sometimes Cobb sees action on that 5th cycle. I wondered if because I increased more than usual last time if we saw a bit of a delay in the NDW as well. Don't know but a thought.

Back in blue - woot!

Am I thinking about this food spike wrong?

I've been thinking, whenever I give him food with carbs, he's going to spike. That's not right, is it? The food "spike" comes at the +1, +2 because the new insulin hasn't kicked in yet - so the carbs are sending him up, but it shouldn't be a problem once there's an onset. Is that right?

Re: 4/18 Cobb AMPS PMPS 215(1uR) +2 282 +3.25 186

Woo Hoo! Yeah for blue!!

The way I understand it is that when we feed, they go up due to the "food spike", but by around +2 or so, onset has kicked in so they should start coming down from the food.

Hope Cobb continues to improve!

Re: 4/18 Cobb AMPS PMPS 215(1uR) +2 282 +3.25 186

Yeah for the blues! Although he is coming down at a fair clip. Hope that doesn't cause another bounce.

You are right, a "food spike" is a combination of the carbs from the meal plus the rise from the insulin wearing off. Unless of course they are breaking a bounce and dropping. Neko had a later onset so her +2 was usually higher than PS.

Re: 4/18 Cobb AMPS PMPS 215(1uR) +2 282 +3.25 186

think about when you give him carbs to pull his numbers up when they go low. i don't know about Cobb, but typically it was closer to 30 minutes before punkin's numbers came up with carbs.

At preshot, you've not only got the anticipated rise from his food carbs, but the Lantus is wearing off. that's also why you don't want to feed much post-nadir, because the Lantus is waning in the second half of the cycle.

When I fed punkin his normal food at +3, he never went up - the Lantus was pushing down the numbers.

so it's a combination of those factors - the carbs from the food + the waning of the insulin that can cause the +1 food spike in some cats.

and yes, bounces sorta wipe out any normal cycle!
