Yesterday's Condo

Well, darn!!! I've done so well flying solo this time, and then I had to go and screw it up! I honestly thought the shot went in this morning. I have been smelling his fur after each time, to be sure, and I didn't smell anything. Then, when I saw that +2 , I ruffled his fur and smelled again, and there it was! :banghead::banghead::banghead:
At least so far he's staying blue, but it's a ways to PMPS yet. I just hate that I may have totally blown his momentum, again! :(

We had an issue last night during Minka's squids. I had to move the needle around because she was twitching so bad - it must have hurt. I thought we were good, then as we were almost done I felt some liquid on my hand where it was resting on her side. I saw a small puddle starting to form on the pillow and thought, "Darn, she dislodged it when she moved just now". I decided I had gotten enough into her, and took the needle out. I felt for the pouch, but couldn't find it. Then she moved and I saw that not only the pillow, but the cushion underneath was all wet!

Very little, if any fluids had actually gone into the cat! So I stuck her again and we did the whole thing over - correctly this time. Needles and I are not getting along so well lately.

Another crappy appy morning for the girls. Minka ate maybe 1/4 of her breakfast, and that was it. Sasha ate one bite. I brought them some boiled chicken in broth and Minka drank the broth and accidentally ate a piece or two of chicken. Sasha drank the broth and ate a couple bites, on purpose. I ended up giving them SEB, and an hour later Minka had polished off her chicken. I brought her a plate with three different kinds of cat food on it, and she selected the Merrick Turducken and ate the entire tablespoonful! :) Sasha, meanwhile, was still picking at her chicken. She sounded congested, so I took her into the bathroom for a steam treatment (and I had just cleaned out the vaporizer yesterday!). She didn't mind spending half an hour in there with me (there went my workout). She even stayed another 15-20 minutes after I turned off the shower, so I left the vaporizer running and closed the door behind me. I checked her every 5 minutes or so, and on the third check she was by the door, so I left it open and she came out. She still sounds somewhat congested. The wind has been wailing the past several days, so I'm sure her allergies are going bonkers. Now I have a tub full of water again, so will be hauling it down by the bucketfuls to water the plants. Wretched drought!

Harvey was sitting in the kitchen this morning, as he often does, as I was preparing his breakfast. He wasn't making shark circles around my legs, which is unusual. After I served his food, he walked over to it, didn't even sniff it, and walked away. He went back to sitting in the kitchen, and pretty soon I heard this weird little sound he sometimes makes - a sort of cry - that means one thing. Sure enough, he got up and went into the living room (why do they always head for carpet?) and threw up. Not much volume, but he did it three times. He still didn't want his cat food, but he was perfectly willing to eat all the chicken and broth I would give him. About an hour ago I looked over and he was polishing off his breakfast! Guess he's feeling better.

Mark the contractor didn't make it out today. He got an SOS from a client that lives in the other direction, so he's coming here tomorrow to finish the rail.

I have accomplished very little today, aside from cat duties. I have a bunch of plants I wanted to get repotted before DH comes home (he won't be happy with all the new pots and soil in the already full garage), but I guess I'll have to do it tomorrow because I need to run to Costco before dinner, and I'm going to stop at Petco for more Turducken for Minka.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans, especially Carla & Callie, Deanna & Billie and Rose & Zoey. :bighug: Special prayers for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, DH and DGD, Marje's DM, Chris' DM and Elise's DM.

Sounds like a lot of hecticness! Maybe it wasn't a total furshot...maybe just a drop or two got on Cinco's fur....fingers crossed! I hope everyone decides that tonight's dinner is the absolute best and they all polish it off without any coaxing or issues. I recently pierced through the tent for Trix's fluids...quickly saw that when it started running down her fur. You'd think after all these years with injections, that would be one thing I could manage to not to, but nope! So we all have those moments at one time or another.

I hope you get some R&R in tonight. When does DH return? I'm exhausted just reading about all you're juggling!!

I hope most of the insulin got in. Fur shots are so frustrating. Cinco will get back on track. Don't be too hard on yourself. I hope the girls appys get better and Sasha's congestion clears up. Sorry about the mess with Minka's fluid. I'm glad Harvey seems to be feeling better. My cats always seem to go for the cords on the floor. Thanks for thinking of Callie. Her wounds on her belly seem to be finally looking better. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks for looking in on us, Amy and Carla.

The problem with Minka and the leak is that her fur is so long and thick that you can't tell until you see the pillow she's lying on get wet! I guess, when I adjusted the need so she's stop twitching, I pulled it out too far.

DH gets into SFO tomorrow night at 11:21 pm. I'm not excited about driving all that way that late at night by myself (about 60 miles), but oh well!

I'm glad Callie's doing better, Carla. I haven't done much visiting yet today, but I'll try to hit everyone's condos this evening.

Yo Cinco, Please tell your mamabean that you are a Deputy Lagoon Watcher now and we need you in the lagoon. No more fur shots!!!

Hi Tricia, Sending eating vines, no-vomit vines to the crew. Have a good evening. Enjoy your plant potting tomorrow!

Ella & Rusty

I'm glad your DH will be home tonight. You must be totally exhausted and drained. Every once in a while the needle would pop out and the fluids would go all over the bathroom. I doubt anyone is immune from that happening once in a while. :bighug:I hope Cinco got some of the insulin. If not, he is doing so well I bet it doesn't even phase him.

Thanks for stopping by, Ella and Elise.

We tried yet another new food tonight: Hounds and Gatos Lamb, Salmon and Chicken. Not surprisingly, it was a big hit with the boys (Harvey is apparently all better now) and a non-starter with the girls. Sasha is still under the weather. She's due for her annual checkup with the regular vet, so I'm going to try to get her in this week. I just gave both girls 1/4 tablet of Cypro, so we'll see if that does anything. Hopefully it won't make Minka pace like the 1/2 tablet did the other day. I gave Sasha some FF and she ate more of that than she has eaten of anything except chicken all day. Minka got some Turducken and she was still debating about whether or not she wants it when I came downstairs. We'll see if they are still not eating in an hour. I may be breaking out the baby food. I am having chicken again (can you tell I LOVE chicken?), so there'll be plenty of that for them, too. The syringe is still not out of the question for Minka, either. She's gotta eat!!

I am reasonably sure the insulin all went in this time (of course, I thought it did this morning, too, but I had overslept and was in a rush and not really awake, so who knows?). I'll be anxiously awaiting his +2. Cinco had seconds of his dinner and is now sleeping it off on the sofa. He's so cute when he's sleeping (aren't they all?)!

Sure hope the girls appy picks up with the cypro! I can't imagine using 1/2 a pill on China, especially considering how well just a crumb works, so I hope you find "just the right dose" for your girls....kind of sounds like Goldilocks and the 3 bears, doesn't it? This bed it too hard...this bed is too soft....LOL

Sure sounds like you've had one heck of a day with the furshot and the squids going everywhere but in the cat! I'm sure you'll be happy to have DH home to take over his usual duties!

Cinco! We've been hired to help Rusty watch the lagoon! I guess we'd better try to spend as much time there as possible, huh? I bought a whistle too....just like the lifeguards at the bean pools have! Can't wait to try it out!~ China

Sending appy vines for the girls!!! It has been that kind of day here too with Billie. So many cans. I went to the pet store for a new haul and also got that H&G flavor! I didn't break it out yet but I'm glad your boys liked it. I hope you can relax when DH gets home! I think you definitely earned a few adult beverages today.

Nice to see you, Chris, Deanna and Elise.

I guess I got the insulin in the cat. Not quite the drop I might have hoped for, but he went down, and it's early in the cycle still. I have hopes he'll take up his lagoon duties before the night is over. How nice of Rusty to make it official. I hope Cinco and China are up for the responsibility.

The Cypro did it's thing! Minka and Sasha both finally ate all their dinner, and there has been a feeding frenzy in my kitchen over the past hour over boiled chicken! Amongst them Minka, Sasha and Harvey have polished off one and a half thighs. Cinco even got in on the action. Usually, by the time I'm handing out chicken, it's too late in his cycle for him to have any, but not tonight. He appreciated the treat, too.

Minka just started meowing. Even that small an amount of Cypro can bring it on, I guess. I don't mind, as long as she eats!

Got the adult beverages covered. Half a bottle of wine is being gently nursed through the evening. Right now I'm just waiting for a little time to pass so I can dole out meds and do Minka's fluids. I need to move them forward a little tonight and tomorrow morning so I can do them tomorrow night before I leave to pick up DH. I don't want to get back from the drive to the San Francisco airport in the wee small hours and still need to do fluids and pills. DH is certainly not going to be in any shape to help out at that point, either! I'm not moving Cinco's shot time forward by much yet, since I'm sure Mark will want to "sleep in" a little on Wednesday morning - 7:15 am sounds a lot better than 6:15 ! He was wise to plan to work from home the rest of the week.

I'm going to try to visit some condos before it's time to start medicating cats.

Holy cow, Elise! It's hard enough cutting it down to 1/4! She isn't super agitated - just a little restless. I'm worried any less wouldn't do the job - it's only just making her eat now. She hesitates before she eats and sometimes "buries" the plate (her signal for either I've had enough or What is this stuff you're feeding me? ) first, then circles around and eats some. We'll see how it goes. Like Chris said, there has to be a "perfect" dose in there somewhere, right?? Right???

Yay for the feeding frenzy and yay for :D the day has has ended up so much better than it started :)

I got some SEB for Vyktor the other day because i saw it and I'd read something somewhere - been doing so much research about this stomatitis business that I've forgotten what it's purpose actually is - perhaps you can enlighten me? I remember that I was also reading about making it into a 'syrup' (don't panic anyone it wasn't like a sugar syrup) is that what you do with it or how do you give it and in what quantity?

I seem to be coming to you for a lot of answers lately but I guess that's not surprising given all the experience you have dealing with so many issues!

@Vyktors Mum, the recipe for the syrup can be found on Tanya's site. SEB is mainly used to control stomach acid and upset. It coats the stomach, so you don't want to use it within two hours of giving meds as it can inhibit absorption. My kitties did not care for the syrup, so I put the powder in gelcaps. I pack two #3 gelcaps as full as I can and that's a dose. It really seems to help Minka a lot, maybe more than the Ondansetron and Pepcid!

I know it sounds strange but Max actually does better on less cyproheptadine., just a sliver no need to be exact and I put it in with other meds when he gets it which because I have so much ge hasn't needed in ages, lol.

Wow! Appy vines to your crew! If I had more than the one with appy issues to deal with I think I might lose my mind. Gold stars for you all around!

Last week DH asked the aspiring vet about some Cypro for Zoey and she said they had stopped using it because of ... some reason. DH didn't remember exactly. (I know ... cliff hanger -- hate that, too!) Going back this afternoon to see the great vet and I'll see what he says (hoping I'm able to go with DH). I know great vet told us to use the mirtz sparingly and not every day. Of course this last go around it didn't work for her at all.

Hope you and the crew have a good day today and thank you for the special shout out and healing vines. We appreciate them and you!

Wonder why the vet stopped using cyproheptadine. Mirt can cause serotonin syndrome which if not addressed quickly has known to have dire consequences and cyproheptadine is the anecdote.

:bighug:Tricia! There is always going to mistakes and the kitties go with it! Don't sweat the small stuff! I put a hook up high on one of my kitchen cabinets. I hook the fluids there so they flow fast. I just change the needle each time and put the kitty on the counter in a cat bed and chat with them while the fluids run. It's pretty fast because the fluids hang high. Also it's easy to catch if I missed the tent pretty fast to. I also use the same counter and bed for insulin shots. Some of my cats jump up there expecting treats even when they don't need fluids or shots! Lol. You are doing great my friend!

I actually bought an IV pole on Amazon to give fluids for about $25 but haven't had to use it yet as I let Tiffany go before. I had been using a hanger over the shower before that.
