5/18 - Buddy - AMPS 134 +2/98 +4/74 +6/78 +8/74 +10/89

Should I really be wondering at this point if Buddy's pancreases is possibly already working normally now? Such a strong reaction from 0.1 units

There are people with much more experience than me here.

But here are my two cents....

There is a suggestion that a "good remission" will last much longer, and apparently once you have a failed remission is harder to get a second. So folks here try to make sure it will be a solid remission.

It looks like Buddy's enzymes are helping, but if it was functioning as in a non-diabetic cat he would be always on green. Thus the idea is to try to keep him as long as you can with the help of the insulin so his pancreas can be as close to healed as possible, before you let it go on its own.

Given he was having blues, the 0.1 dose seems a good idea to give him a bit of help. To prevent big crashes, you may want to feed him throughout the day, so you can have a "flat curve". There are some messages around about "feeding the curve", but I'll stop here for now.

I agree with Karen about keeping him on the 0.1 dose for now. It is also a good idea to "feed the curve" a little with small amounts (tsp's) of low carb during the early morning cycle. Like +1, +2 to stop him from dropping too low and help flatten the curve. There are others here that are much more knowledgeable about this. Let's see if we can get some help. @Bandit's Mom or @Wendy&Neko.

I still really feel like Buddy's pancrease was temporarily damaged due to a bout with Giardi, that resulted in pancreatitis, I think he's recovering from that finally.

It's only the first cycle at 0.1u. Lantus is a depot insulin, so the 0.25u insulin depot could very likely still be at play here. The depot can take a few cycles to drain down to the current dose.
And ideally you want to keep him on insulin until his AMPS and PMPS also go green, even if it is just a tiny dose. This will help ensure a strong remission.

Sounds like a plan.

Good job shooting and Buddy is looking great! We have a saying here, "Shoot low to stay low." Any number above 68 on a pet meter is good to shoot. As Lyla said you'd want to get those preshot numbers blue and all of the numbers generally between 50 and 80 for a strong remission. It looks like he might be there soon, but those preshot numbers are usually the last to come down, especially the AM ones.
