More teeny tiny baby steps...this morning, Trix ate a good portion of her "first breffis" on the floor with "the commoners" rather than lounging on the ottoman after her ear poke! Last night, she absolutely inhaled her second dinner. Fingers and paws crossed these bitty steps mean we're moving closer towards the return of "normal" eating habits. It's funny how these teeny tiny traits mean so much when a kitty is recovering from being sick!

Of course I just slipped up and she MAY have had a small kibble raid ohmygod_smile  ...but I don't know for sure. I usually can hear her coming down the stairs (she has a distinct sound to her step), but I had stepped into another room for a minute. When I came back, she was downstairs in the living room, and there were kibble bowls on the floor in the family room (with the kitchen in between the two rooms). I don't know if she made it all the way back to those bowls or not. UGH! We got sloppy and lazy with the kibble bowls with her spending so much time upstairs, but she is definitely feeling good so we can't do that any longer.

Someone (Tricia?) asked last night if I had tried a pill popper yet. I haven't...and I'm honestly not sure if I'm comfortable with giving it a go. I like to "feel" where the pill is...I'm really afraid of jabbing her or gagging her or something like that because I won't have that "tactile ability" with a pill popper. We're both getting better with the pilling...I just need to keep working on refining my technique, just like I did with doing shots. I do slather it up with (vegan) butter so it's super slippery, and I do follow up with a little bit of water (although she does get impatient with that). And, to her credit, she does NOT run away or fight me when I don't get the pill down on the first try. She knows I'm going to try again, and I think she knows I'm trying to help her but just need to get better at it. She's very sweet.

I'd better get myself moving...DH is off at a swim clinic this morning, so since we're not having our usual "leisurely" (relative term!) bagel breffis today, I'm going to put in a quick workout before work again. Have a great day, LL!

Re: 5/17 Trixie AMBG 124

If she did manage a raid, it must've been small (which would be shocking) because she just ate a decent portion of Fancy Feast. So either she didn't get to the kibbles, or she's just trying to cover her tracks - it certainly wouldn't surprise me if she tried to outsmart me like that  !

Re: 5/17 Trixie AMBG 124

How wonderful Trixie ate some with the other kitties. dancing_cat

I hope she didn't find the kibble.

Is that a bit of plotting I'm detecting? I can't imagine any kitty ever being so devious, and you should be ashamed of yourself for even considering such a thing!

So glad to hear that Trixie is continuing to improve!

Enjoy your workout this morning. Mine will consist of walking all the way to the coffee pot this morning for a refill. ;-)

Re: 5/17 Trixie AMBG 124 - Caught in the act!

Nope, I did not catch her raiding the kibble bowls...but I did catch her eating from her own plate that I had just casually left on the floor for her :-D !! I was getting ready for work and peeked out in the hallway, and there she was, munching away. It was just a few bites, but this is a huge step forward for my sweet TrixieCat - and her exhausted MamaBean servant!! I usually do leave some food out when I go to work, but I never know who eats it. Now I know that she will eat at least a little bit without me holding the plate....let's keep moving forward, baby girl!!!

Back to work....

WOO HOO!!

Go Trixie!! How wonderful that she's doing so much better and "letting" you catch her in the act! (you know as well as I do that if she didn't want you to see her eating, you'd still be trudging back and forth with her food bowl....LOL)

Such good news Amy!

Re: 5/17 Trixie AMBG 124 - Caught in the act!

Do I see the end of the days of plate holding coming? Careful Trixie. Now that mama knows you will eat from your plate on the ground, you may have to go back to doing so all the time! :o

I'm actually glad you suspect a kibble raid, because that means she really is getting back to normal! I think it's wonderful how well she's doing, and I know it's because she's had such excellent care.

Yes, I was the one that asked about the pill popper. I was afraid of hurting my kitties, too, but after I had one capsule melt from Sasha's saliva, and she got a taste of the benadryl inside (which is apparently pretty darned yucky), I knew I had to do something to get it further back in her throat. Right now, she's still eating the pill pockets enthusiastically (anti-jinx), but I know I have the popper as back up if she ever goes back to refusing them. I use it for Minka's pred, too. But she's easy to pill and used to it.

I hope your work day flies by and you come home to more lovely kitten steps! Have a great Caturday, Amy.

Re: 5/17 Trixie AMBG 124 PMBG 141 - Caught in the act!

Hopefully this PMBG is the result of that potential kibble raid this morning! She was feeling quite feisty at gelcap time, but it went down. The first time she flicked it, it landed on top of her head  !

Re: 5/17 Trixie AMBG 124 PMBG 141 - Caught in the act!

Can you turn that into a circus act?   Yay for Trix feeling better! :-D :-D Stay out of the kibble.
