Simon started on Onsior yesterday for his extreme stiffness and arthritic pain. Things went well last night. He was grooming more and was walking a little better. He went very low at bedtime -- 62 and then down to 41 and back up to the 60's. Gave MC food. Bouncing this morning. The major problem is that I do not think the Onsior agrees with his stomach because he is not eating this morning. He is turning his face away from all food. I gave him his Pepcid and Ondansetron and last night he had Cerenia, but nothing seems to be working this morning. If Onsior causes him to not want to eat, then this may not be the med for him and we are back to square one. Wish us luck!

I think Dyna's civvie, Ginger, may have had tummy troubles with Onsior, but I'm not positive...maybe try getting in touch with her to see. Sending prayers that he starts feeling better!!

Oh, I sure hope there's a solution to the stomach issues. Such a bummer than something that seems to help the arthritis may mess up the tummy. Vines.

Sending lots n lots n lots of vines for Simon! Hoping you are able to find a good balance of medications, fuds eating and feeling good

I have been out of the house for a few hours and Simon didn't touch his food while I was gone. I put some HC food down and he is finally eating. Of course his BG is going to go through the roof since it is already over 300. More important that he eats, but not happy with this high of BG. I will increase his insulin this evening and hope things balance out.
Amy, thanks for the info on Ginger -- I will send Dyana a PM.

Morning Georgia :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Good luck with the Onsior. It sounds like it does help him, and I hope it isn't the cause of the no eating. We had such issues with Mannie and the meds he was on, alot of them seemed to upset his tummy. No experience with this one however. I hope you can find a solution. I will wish you luck!

Enjoy your day today. I hope all goes well.

Ok, I was too hasty with my post about him eating the HC food. He only ate a few bites and stopped. I just had to syringe some food in him, but I am questioning whether to give him anymore of the Onsior. Feeling very frustrated and worried.

Still barely eating. He ate about 1/4 can of FF gravy lovers and then I syringe fed him about another 1/4 can. Increased his insulin by .25 and gave fluids, cerenia, Pepcid and ondansetron. He also now has diarrhea. I really wish I had not given him the first dose of Onsior. I should have gone with my first instinct. I hope I didn't harm him in a big way.

Georgia - so sorry to hear that Simon is feeling off his food. Sending appy vines.

I have a couple of other options I'm using for Neko's arthritis. The first is Duralactin - it helps with inflammation and Neko seems to be moving a little bit easier since I put her on it. Search around for cheaper prices. The only issue is that it contains cow milk protein and may cause upset tummy if Simon can't handle milk. The only side effect I've seen for Neko is that her every other day poops are now more often every day, which is a good thing. I have seen some veterinary sites say they suggest Duralactin for pets who can't take NSAIDS. The second option is something Neko's acupuncture vet recommended. It's called Hyaflex, and contains hyaluronic acid which helps joint mobility. I don't see as much of an improvement with it, but I have met a bean who uses it for her arthritis and I have seen hyaluronic acid as an additive to some pet joint meds.

Hi Georgia,
I am sorry Simon is not eating for you. That is a worry for you.:bighug:
Have you spoken to your vet? He should be able to tell you if he thinks Onsoir is the cause of the not eating and diarrhoea

Wendy, thanks for the info on the Duralactin and Hyaflex. I think Simon's tummy does not do well with milk so the Duralactin may not be a good option. I have not heard of Hyaflex and will look it up.
At this point, I am getting scared that something else is going on since his stiffness got really bad over just a few weeks. My vet says that I should think about an ultrasound. He had one a little over a year ago, but I guess a lot can change during that time. I also am thinking about looking into acupuncture. Cost will be a big factor if it is an ongoing thing.

Bron, I did text my vet and he did not say that it is definitely the Onsior that is causing it, but he did say that some cats get upset stomachs on it and to watch and make sure Simon eats.

Thanks everyone for the prayers. I am praying hard that things will be better tomorrow after the Onsior gets out of his body.
