Hi guys. I can't work out why Nelson has spiked again. Last time it was a uti and as the ss shows the antibiotics seemed to clear it up, he also had blood work which was fine. Had urine analysis this morning and its clear except for high gluclose. My vet is away and I need advice as to which direction to push the vet that doesn't know where to look such as dental or arthritis etc. He's also put on nearly a kilo in the last month. He was struggling to poop but we got past that. I know something is wrong but what. Give me some suggestions pls.

I’m wondering if it could be the extra weight? I know Max would go up when he was constipated, but you said you got past that. Other than that, either getting into someone else’s food, a new supplement, or new food (Max is in remission but spikes on raw/homemade cat food due to the high protein), or dental is where I go. Sorry I can’t help more than that.

Needing a dental with inflammation/infection is definitely a common cause of numbers going up. A kilo is a big weight gain too. Is he still eating the same amount?

Thanks Wendy. Yes he is eating the same amount. I thought dental when he had a uti weeks back but the vet didn't actually get a good look at his teeth then because she messed up the Gabapentin so that's still a possibility. Are you thinking that or bowels?

I wasn't thinking anything particular for the numbers to go off, just that needing a dental or infection/inflammation somewhere are one of the more common reasons we see here. That plus diet change. There are a lot of reasons for weight gain. It's not the reason for Nelson, but unregulated cats that become regulated can gain weight because their bodies don't need as much food. I also forgot to ask if Nelson is drinking any extra?
