5/17 Hugo update continuing tummy problems

Hi everyone,

My boy Hugo has been making my life a bit more exciting and nervewracking again. First of, I increased to 1.75u, because I wasn't happy with the little green he had. Then he gave me a 34 at +2, but I know I may have increased his dose too early after only five cycles. Then I had to go back to 1.50u after the 34 and still now he is keeping me on my toes. Last night he had a green PMPS of 83, so I was too scared to shoot the full dose and gave just a half. His stomach had been a lot better already and I stopped the S boulardii, because he made normal poop.

Along with the low numbers return the tummy problems. Tonight he has been surfing in the 50s, but I have had to give some different foods after he refused his LC. I even tried to put some kibble on top of his LC to make him eat. And just now he did a loose poo again So I'm thinking of going down in his dose so he'll be safer. I don't know, his supersensitive stomach drives me insane. It seems like it is okay if he eats just three types of foods, but he gets bored with them. Then after I add another one, comes the diarrhea. Or when I need to make him eat and he won't eat his LC, then comes the diarrhea. Nicer numbers for sure, but I can see his tummy hurts. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Last night at 4 am he also vomited, but it was grass after he had eaten it outside that afternoon.

What food are you giving him for HC? Does it have a gravy made with wheat? Neko couldn't handle wheat so I had to give an HC made with potatoes or rice for carbs, or add a drop of honey or syrup.

There is a maintenance dose of S.boullardi. Maybe Hugo needs to keep on that.

There is a maintenance dose of S.boullardi. Maybe Hugo needs to keep on that.

I haven't been giving any HC at all, because I can't find one that doesn't upset his tummy. It's an absolute nightmare when the diarrhea starts. It can go on for days and get bloody and then only Tylosin helps. The S Boulardii helped last time, I gave it for three days.

He tolerates Gourmet Gold Mousse, so I have given that and today I gave Whiskas in jelly 7+. I think that caused the diarrhea tonight. And when he had that 34, I rubbed honey to his gums. Today I tested his BG 15 times! I'm using too many test strips and it's starting to break the bank, but I'm scared he'll drop too low.

I agree about staying on a maintenance dose is S . Boullardi to keep his GI tract good. Or there's Slippery Elm Bark that helps. I believe Dr. Lisa gives info about it on her site.

I think keeping Hugo on a maintenance dose of S. Boullardi is a good idea too. I'm sorry things are so frustrating balancing out his numbers and when to test. Those greens are nice healing numbers for him. Are you having to feed a lot to keep him surfing in those greens?

It's just that I can't help but think if it will somehow "ruin" his intestinal flora that he is constantly taking something. But if it doesn't hurt him, then of course I will start him on a maintenance dose. This morning the poop had some form already.

He isn't eating that much in quantity, but I need to try various foods and open many cans to get him to eat. Maybe being in the low numbers reduces his appetite, so it makes this all more challenging. I envy those who can just keep feeding one brand and their cat will eat every time he needs to eat. Hugo is so not like that at all. He runs away or starts to cover the plate with his paws, like saying "bin it! I hate this food too!"

When they are in normal numbers, they don't need as much food because their bodies process food better. It is frustrating when they are too low and you need them to eat though.
