5/17 Heart AMPS 378, +5 197 - Switched to Levemir

Hi all,

Since my Heart was all over the place, I thought I'd try Levemir. Before if I had him around 2 units of Lantus, he'd be in the yellows and blues. If I increased to 2.25, we started seeing pinks. If I went to 2.5, he'd go too low. Switched back and forth between 2.25 and 2.0 and same thing - the more insulin I gave, the higher the BG wings. So I figured I'd try Levemir. So I started him on 1.5 units for now. Had an icky morning, but right now I'm liking my 197 and it's probably not even nadir yet...

Also switched to the ReliOn.

Good luck on the insulin switch. I was happy with the change when we did it last fall. Better numbers for Neko, but a bit less sleep for me due to the later nadir. The recommendation is starting ay 70% of the previous insulin dose so the 1.5U looks good.

Since you've gotten your hands on some cheaper test strips and you are starting the new insulin, it'd be good to get a few more tests in today and tonight so you can try to pin point when onset and nadir are for Heart. Typical is supposed to be onset around +4 and nadir around +8. Neko is onset around +5.5 and nadir from +9 to +12, except when it isn't. :roll: I've seen nadir as late as +15 and as early as +6.
