All is well with Checkers. Ate breffis. Eating more now. Slept. Typical cat stuff.

I started a new pen today. His numbers have not been so good lately. Good one day, crummy next. Pen had big bubble in it, and it seemed watery; just didn't look right to me.
At least the syringe had only a tiny bubble today. Yesterday, I wasted 3 syringes, with of course insulin in them. But I believe it's bad insulin, so it didn't matter.
I keep wondering if the bad syringes, somehow got air into the insulin. I never push the plunger in, once the needle is in the pen. How could air get into pen? Guess I'll never know, and I'm out the $40

Re: 5/16 Checkers amps 257 +1.5/125

Hi Barb, Bummer on the air bubble in the pen. Someone posted last week about a similar problem and was advised to get the air bubble up to the stopper on the pen and draw it out with a syringe. Maybe you should try that if you have that problem in the future.
Hope your day will be a good one.
Ella
Hey Checks, Don't forget the Full Flower Moon party at Zoe's in Florida tonight. See you there,
Rusty

Re: 5/16 Checkers amps 257 +1.5/125

Anybody want to venture a guess, if the air bubble is damaging to the insulin? I can't be sure Check's higher numbers are due to the insulin, or if I haven't been dosing accurately, with the bad syringes.
It'll be a few days before the new ones arrive.

Re: 5/16 Checkers amps 257 +1.5/125

this morning seem to be a good one for the insulin, nice +1.5 for Checks.

What type of syringes are you using/ I like the Monojects a lot better than BD, much easier to see the plunger. The problem w/ air in the pens is that the pens are pressurized and injecting air effects that. There is no problem w/ air in the vials. I once saw a very tiny stream of bubbles from the rubber stopper just after i removed the needle. I think the membrane didn't self seal immediately. The next day I noticed larger bubbles in the pen.

Thanks for the response, Ann. I failed to mention, that the membrane felt 'loose', when I withdrew the needle, the last few times, as though the needle hole was too big. I'm using 31g, same as always.
I thought it was imagination. Now it all clicks.

I'm certain now, that the insulin is toast, 'cause his numbers are coming down nicely, with the new pen.

Good morning .. sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with the syringes/pen barb .. I have to admit peter was the one who always drew the insulin for mocha .. my hands are to shaky to hold both the pen and syringe without dropping one of them .. I am glad to see checkers coming down nicely for you today .. have a great day guys!

257 amps.......new pen
125 +1.5
63 +3....drop honey in tuna treat
93 +4

That drop of honey worked better than I wanted. First time using it.

The little brat outwitted his bean. He always pees in back left corner of LB. I hate putting so much heavy wet clay out for trash, and in landfill. Thinking I'm so clever, I'll put Pine Scoop in that corner, and the clumps will weigh almost nothing. Didn't he turn around and pee in the front corner....in the clay stuff.

Waddya mean, you didn't want to know that?

   That is funny. You can't pull one over on Checkers! I hope you have a great day!

    on the LB thing. Checks to bean: no messin' with my LB!

Well bummer on the insulin, and the bubbles. I've had ones too where that bubble gets into the pen - a royal pain, but I too thinks it's the seal. I managed to work around it, but what a hassle.... well glad you started a new pen. I will be glad when the new syringes get there - I think It will help with dosing. Aren't you now measuring with full unit markings only? that has to be tough...

Have a good day Barb. Hope the weather improves. Nice to see Checks green today!

how you feeling?

Hmmm, I wonder if it's coincidence that he had better numbers with the new pen. Maybe he got more insulin this morning, with the syringe I used . That dose isn't precise, to begin with
I bought another box of pens today, and mentioned to the clerk in front of the parmacist, that the last pen was no good, and they both kind of said to call the company about it.
I'm not confrontational, so am reluctant to do that. Heck, I couldnt even get the syringe seller to replace a $15 product.
Saleswoman, I ain't!

Re: 5/16 Checkers pmps 205

that's crappy about the pen, seal and bubbles. last week when i heard you say something about, i was thinking i was glad my pen wasn't giving me trouble - and wouldn't you know it - the next day it started. i've had bubbles ever since, not in the pen, but in the syringes. i'm using monojects and haven't had trouble with them before, but for some reason i've had a lot of trouble getting bubbles out of the syringes this past week.

hopefully your new pen is going to take care of that problem - checkers is looking pretty good this afternoon.

too funny on the litterbox! you can't outsmart The Checkers! we pee where we wants to pee! ;-)

Re: 5/16 Checkers pmps 205

Hi Barb

Glad to see Checks came down today and hope he will do the same tonight. I had bubbles in my last pen, too, which I chucked last night. I also use the monoject syringes and don't get bubbles. Used to go through 3-4 of the BD syringes each time I drew insulin. Have a good night.
