Edit: Update, blood ketones was 0.9 at 9:17 pm central time. And he just vomited the food I syringe fed him. I gave him insulin around 8:45 pm central.

It's like Charlie heard my husband and I saying how much better he's been looking lately... didn't eat his afternoon snacks, didn't want dinner, his BG was 347, had to syringe feed him dinner. Will get a blood ketone test on him when he's slightly less mad at me.

Gave him Mirtaz, which has been more like once a week than every day lately, so hopefully, he'll start eating on his own soon and I don't have to stay up all night force feeding him. I have sub-Q fluid from his last ER visit and needles from the other cat, who was supposed to get fluids recently and absolutely protested that... At what point should I do that until the vet opens at 7 am central (it's 9:10 pm here now)?

Do you have cerenia or ondansetron for nausea? With ketones he needs to eat and mirtaz is just an appetite stimulant. I’d give fluids if he’s not eating and drinking enough.

I have Cerenia. I have it around 6:20 pm central. I think he swallowed it, less sure than I normally am. He gets a quarter tab. Can I give another quarter of a tab?

I don't have the other one. I do have fluid and needles but I don't know how much to give him. Our ER vet was next to useless last time and extremely expensive so if I can avoid that I would like to. They did labs and gave fluids and were like that's 1200 take him to your normal vet tomorrow morning

How many mg in the Cerenia tab and how much does Charlie weight? It's dosed by weight of cat.

If you see the regular vet, see if you can get a prescription for ondansetrom. I found it much better for helping nausea.

Charlie weighs 13-14lb and currently gets 4mg, a quarter of a 16 mg tab.

I plan to call his vet first thing in the am and ask for that and if we can get in. I called a week or so ago just to check in on next steps because his BG has been high again despite his IBD seemingly better controlled. And we don't have an appointment til next week.

IBD group suggested a quarter tab of pepcid, so that is onboard along with 100cc sub q fluids and 10 ml turkey baby food. His BG was 339, down a tiny bit and his ketones were up to 1.1. He's loafing like he's uncomfortable in the cat tree and one of our other furkids is keeping an eye on him while another has taken the opportunity to curl up in the dead center of the bed.

This is my not surprised face. Since the vet that originally prescribed it didn't believe anything was wrong with him after this happened in March and we ended up in the ER. And his Prednisone refill came with a note that made me sure she has neither talked to her colleague who diagnosed the IBD at the end of March nor read his chart recently. I wish I had gotten an appointment with the colleague but she didn't have any appointments for a full month!

Thank you for the paper, I'll be sure to bring it to me tomorrow. That has helped with discussing diabetes and insulin. Hi, here is my well underlined copy of the AAHA report.

Tell me he's getting prednisolone instead of prednisone? You can get pred compounded in chew treats, which is how I'm currently giving to an IBD kitty. That way you know you are getting even dosing.

He's getting transdermal Prednisolone. We tried pills for that reason but he was harder to pill when we tried that a while back. He's gotten more used to having things shoved down his throat and poked in his ears recently.
