Thanks, Carla. Lulu's being a bit feisty, but I think most of it's because Coco, the kitten, keeps antagonizing her...comes around when she's being tested; hops up on the table when she's being pilled. There was a whacking contest between the two of them last night, lol. I got Otis last July in order to keep Lulu company after Mickey went to Rainbow Bridge. Otis tried to play with her and she freaked out, hissing and yeowling like a banshee. So I got Coco in November for Otis to play with. Otis and Coco wrestle and play, it's great. But Otis has also taught Coco to torment Lulu. Sigh...Can't we all just get along guys?
I have a cat sitter coming this aft for a meet and greet. She works at my vet's clinic. Here's hoping it goes well.

I guess Lulu has to get used to green again. She will soon enough.

I get lots of whacking at test time too. Younger brothers.

Will your cat sitter be testing? You might want to pose a question here about a vacation dose a couple of days before you leave.

@Wendy&Neko - woohoo, she's green again. I just tested her before her lunchtime. I know it will take some time, we'll get there. Patience, patience...:)

Yes, the cat sitter and I will be having a long conversation today, as I have become very particular about managing Lulu's diabetes, thanks to you and FDMB! I do want her to test, she says she's familiar with it, we'll see. I will be checking in with you before vacation about dosages, I'd rather be too low than too high dosage-wise. A friend of mine told me a horror story about a cat sitter they had hired who drew up a 10 unit dosage for their kitty whose dosage was 1u, and argued with their daughter that she was right. Supposedly an animal health tech, too.:eek:
I'll be asking her to send me daily email updates. She has also promised me that she will take Lulu to work with her, if any problems (her employer is Lulu's vet).
If anything bad happened to Lulu due to negligence, there'd be hell to pay:mad:.

One of the vets at Neko's clinic told me a story of a vet tech (at a different clinic) showing people how to inject their cat, because he was away that day. Turns out the tech showed them how to do 20 units instead of two!!! The vet found out a couple months later when they ran out of insulin much faster than he thought they should. What saved the cat is that he had acromegaly.

I hope the tech was reported to the provincial licensing board -- that is abominable! Thank heavens the kitty had acromegaly -- I wouldn't wish a medical condition on any cat, but if it saved his life...
My cat sitter just left. She prefers not to BG test as that would be stressful to Lulu, so I will be wanting her to shoot low. I'll post on the board on Wednesday asking for your recommendation. The sitter said that she would take Lulu to work with her if any concerns. She knows what a half unit and unit look like on the syringe, she showed me. She had a diabetic cat herself, who has now gone ahead, so has experience with owning (being owned by?) a diabetic. She will email me daily so I can check at the online café on the ship. And she knows how much my furbabies mean to me, we've been going to this clinic for years, so I'm sure she'll be very, very careful. Also, I've seen how she handles cats at the clinic and she's very good with them.
