5/15 Kit cat AMPS 117, +2 72, PMPS 76

Wow Kit, you're numbers are just beautiful!! :D:D:D

Have a great day Alicia!! :)
Thanks! Her AMPS have all been blue, but relatively low blue. I'm wondering if I should try switching to a new pen. I've been using the same original vial I got at the beginning of January (legit only 1/3 used so far). It still looks clear, and it's doing something since her numbers look green the rest of the time. *shrug*

Sorry Alicia, I’m not sure how long pens last. We've been using vials lately and when we did use pens a while back, we were going through them quite frequently so I never gave it much thought.

I seem to remember some beans discussing this lately. Maybe it was Sue and/or Carla.

@Sue and Luci
@carfurby

He certainly likes waking up on the beach and spending the rest of the day in the lagoon! :rolleyes:

What’s that all about Kit? :joyful:

She's currently on a vial - the next will be a pen just because she uses sooooo little. It's still clear and no floaties, and lives in a central location in the fridge so it should have stayed a good temp.

Oh Kit, please forgive me for saying "he", I know you're a beautiful little girl!! :kiss:

So, it doesn't sound like it's the insulin and she's getting a +9 snack...maybe add a question mark to your thread title to get some experienced ideas.

I used my vial of insulin for almost a year. As long as it's refrigerated it should be good. I think there's a tendency to suspect the insulin when in most cases it's the cat...not really the insulin. The new insulins these days are much more stable than insulin of old...although if you abuse it (freeze or leave in a hot car on the dashboard on a sunny day, for instance)...the insulin is most likely fine. Manufacturers are required by law to put the short expiration date and recommended life of the medication on there for hooman use! It's not intended for use the way we use it for our kitties...but it works great, and so we will continue to use these fine meds on our kitties.

Kit looks great btw...you're doing everything right :)

Thanks! She handles it all so much better than we ever thought she would - for such a sassy tortie, she is so well behaved now that we've got a system.

I presume it will go bad before we finish it because she's on such a small dose. But I also know that there are folks that have had their insulin stay good for quite a while.

Well, there 'is' one other option...someone may be headed to the Falls...

Won't mention any names here...but if you know who goes on over to the Falls...you won't have to worry about the insulin going bad...

I wouldn't count on it...she's looking mighty good...just needs a teensy weensy bit of help...give her time...she's on the mend :)

She's a beauty though...the most difficult kind :rolleyes:

I bought the 5 Lantus pens last August and am only on my third pen so far. We’ve barely used any of the third pen. But I’ve used the last two pens until the very last drop and haven’t had any problems. I think Kit is just doing her think, taking her time. Just like Blaze. These dang cats do things on their terms:rolleyes::smuggrin:
