Yep, toast. Lasted all of 4 days this time. So frustrating. Each ear prick takes me on average 3 tries (no blood, blood but he wiggles away and shakes his head, blood, but by the time i push the strip in the meter, the blood has somehow rubbed off on the cotton pad). His ears look so raw and abused.
 
If you can get the blood onto your finger when that happens the meter can draw it up from there.
 
I have a very squirmy cat as well (does NOT like being held) and someone (prob Elise) suggested squeezing the blood onto my nail. Worked great as a starting point. Since then, we've progressed. Currently, as I'm getting her on the floor between my legs, I give her head and both ears a good rub & sorta 'milk' toward the tips of her ears - she like 'dat - then, with one hand I hold the spot on the ear I'm gonna jab & with the other hand push the strip into the meter while I grab the lancet (placed on top of the meter, no holder), quick check the bevel, do the prick & let her go (insert face in fish). While she's occupado, I squeeze the spot on her ear with a bit if tissue to remove excess blood (stop bleed & helps minimize scabbing). I have everything set up and ready to go on the side I'll be pricking before I grab her, with her treat (bit of sardines) right in front of her face.

Going into this, I did not believe we'd get to this point. As we've gotten better, I've found the 31g lancets are easier on her (barely a flinch) but require a bit more milking. I also turned off the beep on the meter.

The attached pic shows my poking box including readers & headlamp just after a prick. I said smile, but, she busy

What a system - thank you!! I need to figure out how much time I have once I push the strip into the meter. How do you keep her from going for the sardines while you're pricking?

Sometimes she does get to the sardines but I sorta hold the non/poking hand across her face while I hold her ear. Face in fish is the only way I can inject her. She won't let me anywhere near her while she's eating regular food

I think the ReliOn is about 2 minutes, but I've pulled it out and pushed in again to restart if I'm taking too long, all the while with my hand holding her face

There are no cuddles after, or ever (ungrateful wench)

hehehheh, I think this calls for a video! Your Maus is gorgeous too.
