Re: 5/15 Chuck 311 @ 4 a.m.

Sorry to see Chuck is not coming down this morning! At least this will give your Vet more data to show Chuck is not showing better numbers. Will you be doing more spot checks?

Re: 5/15 Chuck 311 @ 4 a.m.

I'm testing him twice a day, just before feedings. His ears aren't used to the pokes anymore (neither is he!), so I'm running out of places to poke...

5/15 Chuck 248 +6

Not sure why he's spiking up overnight, but holding the numbers down during the day. At 4 this morning, he was at 311, ate after testing. I tested at 10 a.m. (would be +6 if he were getting shots) and he was at 248. I'll test again around 4 this afternoon, just before evening feed...

WC: Sociable, eating and drinking normally, litter box normal. Haven't tested for ketones lately as it's hard to catch him in the litter box. With 3 of them sharing litter boxes, I need to be sure I catch Chuck in the box, and not urine after because I won't know who's urine it is...

hi susan. chuck has been bringing his numbers down some, but i think we've both been hoping to see better numbers than what we're seeing. i think it's time to talk to your vet about getting some insulin. you've caught this early. the sooner you give him a little help the better.
what do you think?

Jill:

I'm talking with the vet tomorrow morning about insulin. I'm sure his pancreas is working because he had that 311 this morning and brought it down to 248 6 hours later. Now it's leaped up to 286. I sure hate the thought of going back on insulin, but think it would be for a short time. I really hate the thought of buying a vial of Lantus for a couple of weeks <smile!> -- wish I could buy only 1 cartridge!!

I really think this has gone on long enough -- he started this on the 11th, so we're 5 days out from taking away the kittycrack. No matter how carb-sensitive he might be, it should all be out of his system by now, don't you think?

311 - 248 - 286. when you consider meter error at that range, the numbers are basically the same.
it's time. glad you'll be talking to the vet tomorrow. it's only been 5 days. that's not long at all!
hopefully, chuck will need a short stint on insulin and then he'll be back at the Falls in no time.
