OMG... Good Morning LL Fam! ~O) ~O) ~O)

So sorry i was AWOL yesterday, My husband has been working some long hours this past month due to circumstances out of his control at work, and just Wednesday he told me he was off Friday :-D . He trimmed the property in the morning, we went and visited with my mom, got home late afternoon, I worked out while he took a much needed I-) .
We actually got to have that glass of wine and BBQ (some plans stayed intact  ).. Sat down on the sofa after supper and cuddled while catching up on one of our fav shows~~ Destination Truth, that we had recorded.

Tommy's been treating me to some very nice blues the past few pokey's :-D :-D . Perhaps today, despite the icky weather here in the mid west, I'll get to see some green from my boy.
After Tommy's +9 this morning i spent the next hour catching up on yesterdays condos.. I missed you all yesterday Big Time!

Well, I'm gonna step out and see what's happening with everyone else this morning..
Have a wonderful Day ;-)

Hi Squirrel, sounds like a lovely evening to me. Cuddled up with the Honey, and wine, in front of the TV.

This is a nice blue day for Tommy. Gives the beans a chance to do things without worrying about a pokefest all day :-D .

Good evening, First things first, Yes yesterday was yummy, I wish it could happen more often and thank you all for stopping in today to give kudos to my boys pretty colors.. I'm very proud of him!

Now, I wanted to wait until tomorrow to tell you all, but i just want to get it out of my head and over with so I can move on and continue doing the best i can for Tommy..
I called and got the results of Tommys Acro test: He is positive for Acro with a (313) Normal is 12-92..
Needless to say, i spent some of the day crying and trying to absorb what i had just found out.. I actually drove to the vets office to pick up a copy of the results so i could see for myself.
A little earlier i sent a PM to Libby to help me sort out some of what i was feeling and to ask a gazzilion questions, to which she kindly, as she always does, responded to them all and with great gentleness and care for my feelings and told me it will be ok. I respect her more than she will ever know!!
I'll be ok and so will Tommy! We're in this journey together and for the long haul. He's only 15 :-D . He's got plenty of good years left in him ;-), And with my LL Fam by my side, how can i go wrong. I love you all and I just want to take right now to tell all of you THANK YOU! If not for FDMB and LL I probably would have gone crazy by now @-) @-)
Libby said something to me earlier that really touched me and kind of put things in perspective, she said:
"Tommy is the same cat he was yesterday and a year ago and the year before that and the year before that..." and for me, his bean, That's just fine with me! I love you Thomas J!!!

and Thomas J loves you, too! tommy doesn't care a flying fig about numbers or any diagnosis. all he wants is the same love you've been giving him all along.

(((((squirrel))))), i am soooooooooo sorry about the diagnosis. it wasn't a big surprise, but it sure is a kick in the gut to receive the news. at least now we know the reason behind the doses.

i hope you know you have the love and support from all of us behind you. you're not alone. we know so much more about treating acrokitties today than we ever have before. there's more to share, but tonight i just wanted to stop by to say i care. the rest can wait.

(((Squirrel))))....I care too but Jill's post had me in tears....how beautiful and poignant. We'll all be here for you and Libby and Jill are right....he's the same Tommy he's always been and he doesn't know or care what those numbers are or mean. You are handling him beautifully and his numbers look great. He has come so far with your diligent care. He's going to continue to do great.

Hi Squirrel - hugs from Mannie and I. I am truly sorry for the diagnosis. At least now you know why the dosage. What Libby wrote is so incredibly true. He is the same cat he was yesterday, and will be tomorrow. Perhaps some of the things you do for him will now be different, the basic things you do now will not: commitment, love, belief, cuddles and scritches. Your journey has taken a turn, but a doable one. Do know that we are all here for you. There is so much more known about acro kitties than ever before, there are so many wonderful resources here on this board, some great people who currently love and care for acro kitties. Bottom line is we all care, will continue to care, and help in whatever way we can. (((HUGS!)))

Well at least now, you know. It is better to know, really. You will come to terms with it in time - but you will have to give yourselves a chance to take it all in. You will find all the support you need through the marvelous people around here... please believe me - I know first hand, of which I speak!

Welcome to the club that no one wants to join --

The acro-beans will be there to answer any questions and concerns that you have.

The main one is --- aim for BLUES not GREENS. Acro-cats have functioning pancreas -- so feeding a little taste of high carb food to a low number can cause even lower numbers because it stimulates the pancreas to do its job and make more insulin.

Most of the current acrobeans feed a whole CAN of high carb food when BGs drop below 100 early in the cycle.

Are you on facebook? It is easier to quickly check who is online there.

Hey, My Coco was diagnosed in march with Acro, But he has been showing non diabetic symptoms of acro for over 5 years. I always wondered what was wrong with him, and now i know. and i wasnt going to let a piece of paper get me down, so i took it positively. When i got my Dx i was happy to finally know. Now he my spoiled rotten kitty, who gets way more then he could ever want lol. I think the Dx actually made him an even happier kitty because now he gets so much more from me. lol.

But yeah, welcome to the club ~ I prolly cant offer much cuz I'm newish, but just welcoming you :]

for the high carb feeding though, When i got my first greens i used to feed full cans, but as i got more comfy i learned how much he really needs to get his glucose to the high 100's without creating a horrible 400+ number lol, now he only gets 2tbs, and it does wonders without making him go super high.. some ppl i guess need more then a full can though x.x Just something i guess you play with in time xD Every cat is different and i guess that's what needs to be figured out to their personal needs :]

Norton was ok in greens, but we were also at a relatively low dose (~15u total per day) of PZI and dosing TID to a sliding scale. Of course PZI did not have a shed to worry about.

You may want to consider a switch to Levemir. Lantus is in an acidic liquid which human diabetics have told us does STING at higher doses. Levemir is in a neutral liquid which does not sting.

i guess we're not going to let you start a new condo yet, squirrel! cuz i don't want to wait to say that i just read about tommy being diagnosed with acro . . . others have so much wisdom and perspective . . . yes, he's the same kitty as ever. it's just giving you more information that will help you help him better.

hugs!
