Sammy came home Wednesday evening after the funeral. His ss is up-to-date now but Tuesday his AMPS was 295 and they shot 2U. Then his PMPS was 186 and they did not shoot. At least this is what I have in my notes so he either went one or two cycle without anything although it must be one cycle and I was yelling at the surgeon enough to fluster him.

Anyway, he's home now with his side shaven, a bunch of nasty-looking stitches, an Elizabethan collar on his neck and two bottles of Clavamox (1ml BID) to take until finished. He's not supposed to jump any heights or even go upstairs so I've been sleeping in the living room with him.

At one point yesterday however he disappeared when I was on the phone. I thought he was in the living room on the chaise which is only a foot off the floor but the little dickens was upstairs on the bed snoozing. He came down by himself ok. So when the doctor heard that he said not to even attempt to give him any more Tramadol. (I was having trouble getting the pills into him. Cats aren't as easy as dogs.)

I also asked the surgeon yesterday to look at the X-ray and tell me what he saw about Sammy's back. Seems he's got one vertebra more than he's supposed to have and arthritis of the spine and perhaps a slipped disk (I gotta ask again) which might explain he's reluctance to go. The doctor said to discontinue the MiraLax and pick up something he's got that may help. He also suggested the herbal Basic B and Cell Advance. And that's where we are right now. No poo and an AMPS of 298.

Re: 5/14 Sammy's Home AMPS=298

Glad he is home Maureen.
Are you getting Fortilora to give him along with the Clavamox?
Hoping things will settle down with him now....so glad you got him to the vet right away. What have you decided to do about the devil cat? Our neighbor at our old house was a Maine coon...and always came to call for jealousy (GA) Jealousy ended up at the vet office too many times with infections from the wounds he would inevitably get while having little fights with that other cat. :YMSIGH:

At least Sammy will be confined to the house for now....hope he will be a good patient for you while he recuperates.....HUGS!

Good to hear that Sammy is home and feeling up to doing the stairs. Wonder about that feeling OK for him, but LB action too painful? Giving you a bump up. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon

So GLAD Sammy is Home!!!!
He does need some probiotics with the Clavamox--ALSO VERY IMPORTANT-You Must give Clavamox WITH FOOD!! Or he will get a stomcah ache--
Just like a person--Ab's shouldnt be given without food!!
I would also recommend the fortiflora--It is designed for cats!
What is vet giving you?? Lactulose?? Standard ops for constipation from the vets--It does work but is quite powerful, so I hope it helps--
Sending Healing vines & Hugs to dear Sammy, & HUGS to you Maureen--You need some@!!!!

Re: 5/14 Sammy's Home AMPS=298

well, Sammy's lucky. He's been getting it with meals. You think it's better after meals? I told the vet Lactulose was unacceptable because of his diabetes.

Re: 5/14 Sammy's Home AMPS=298

I'm glad to hear that Sammy is home. I'm sure you're relieved, as well. So much for telling a cat that no jumping is allowed. (It didn't work with Gabby after abdominal surgery, either.)

Not all ABs need to be or should be given with food. If you have a question about it, I'd give your vet a call.

The FortiFlora is for cats. There are other options -- yogurt with active cultures or other probiotics. I think a lot of people here like the FortiFlora because it often induces a cat to eat. It can be used for it's anti-liquipoo properties as well as to stimulate appetite without having to resort to a medication.

The medicine for his "constipation" that he's now on is called Cisapride. Gave it to him. Took a +12 a while later he hit 518. In his entire diabetic career he has never been so high. I gave him 2.25U. Looked up Cisapride. Sounds scary.

Hi Maureen, So glad to hear that Sammy is home and under your supervision. I'm sure he'll recover nicely now that he's in his familiar surroundings. I think that all medications have scary "information" enclosures. The drug companies want to cover every eventuality so that they won't be sued. Good luck with bringing Sammy's numbers down. Sending healing vines (no scary enclosures there!)
