Gus got a Lantus increase today, combined with R to keep him in the 400s. Tuesday's extraction can't come too soon. It looks as if it bothers him more each time he eats. Poor guy. Better days are coming, Gus.

Re: 5/14 Gus AMPS 427/R.25;+3R=421/R.25

poor guy..... I really look forward to what his numbers will be after the extraction. I hope all goes well there. In the meantime... Gus: remember the other colors? return visit maybe? Have a great day today!

poor little buddy! just curious bev, what were the directions regarding food and insulin on the day of the procedure?

I sure hope it's just the tooth that's causing all this ickyness for you and Gus..
Good luck on Tuesday.. The waiting game definitely s***s...

Poor Gus!! I'm sure once the tooth is taken care of, he'll go right back to improving daily. I can't believe they couldn't fit him in sooner! I hate to see a kitty in pain. Did they at least give you something to give him for the pain so he can eat without too much difficulty?

Julie: I was told to give a small meal about 2 hours prior to surgery and .5 of the regular Lantus dose. They will be monitoring him during and immediately following the procedure. Gus will be given R to keep him in the realm of renal safety. The vet was uber surprised when I told him that I was giving Gus R intermittently with his Lantus. His vet tech wrote down how much "R does what" and I will be all over them to make certain that Gus isn't given the wrong dose of R while he's there. The staff knows that Gus' Mom is up to speed on what should be done with him and I don't expect an opportunity for surprises while he's in their care. I do what is necessary to keep my guy in the safety zone. I have promised him another 2-3 years of healthy life with his feline family. Gus does not appear to be in any discomfort until a $%#&*(() piece of food gets caught in his tooth!

Bev: so sorry to hear about Gus's tooth and that he has to wait a few more days to have it taken out. This PMPS is great considering that dental issue. Poor GUS!!!! Sending him healing vines. He has such an awesome bean.

Wow! Look at that PM #...that's pretty impressive! Good luck with the dental on Tuesday. I really hope he responds to having the dental! We will be thinking good thoughts for you!

Thank you for your help yesterday with Guinness's foray into Humulin R. He did well today.

You know, it's a lot of times about the bean and what they're doing to help the kitty. But I have to say that Gus is one of the coolest cats I've ever met. I've had cats since I was a child of 2-3 years old. He is an extraordinardy cat. He greets our visitors at the door like a dog. He loves to have people pet him and scratch his neck. He hears the 'beep' of the meter and jumps onto the table to have me take his BG test. He has raised two feral male cats to the point where they are somewhat approachable by humans. He gives kisses with his front teeth. Because he is so laid back, I am able to "dummy' get a BG on one of the feral boys. They are so accustomed to Dad having that done, that they are easy to test.
