Good Morning, Everyone,

All is well here. Rusty had a good night, a good morning routine, and is sleeping in his little bed by the radiator (which is off). The beans are about to leave for a paddle with our friends who just bought a new canoe and want to try it out. Back later this afternoon.

Wishing you all a good day,

Ella & Rusty

Yo Kitties, Tomorrow is the Full Flower Moon and we will party at Tess's, where there are lots of beautiful azalias in bloom and other flowers, too. Planning session for the party will be this afternoon, on my front porch. All welcome to help plan the party. Refreshments will be served.

Re: 5/13 Rusty AMPS 147

Hi guys ... nice blue rusty! We went from the heat being turned off, the AC being turned on, and by tomorrow, the heater back on! ohmygod_smile Have a great day guys!

Re: 5/13 Rusty AMPS 147

Nice view of the Lagoon from ther, Rusty. Good idea to keep an eye on things! Tess looks like she'll join Z-man and do an up close inspection today.

Enjoy the paddle and yay on the radiator finally being off.

Yo, Rusty! Flowers are a go here for the party, but it's gonna be HOT!!! Your porches sound like a good idea today, it cools off here in the evening so it won't be too bad for the party. I'm thinking lots of sushi and cold fuds! I'll make a violet and Lavender Flower Sorbet! -- Tess

Nice AMPS for Rusty! I'm glad it gives you a chance to paddle.

Sorry to just get back to you on Prefilling levemir syringes.

From Levemir - Pet Diabetes:

Levemir appears to work fine when stored overnight in syringes for prepared dosing.

I'm not certain how long you could have prefilled syringes in the frig but we left four for Gracie and the last one dropped her into the 40s :-D

Tobey is getting together his best cimmamum recipes for the party! He's thinking of cimmamum hummus

marje, thanks for coming back to ella's question from 5/8. i was as curious as she was. i was also wondering what your source was when you said, "We left her pre-filled syringes (you can pre-fill levemir syringes but not lantus) and the one for Tuesday morning had the dose increased back up to what it was before we left."

i was hoping the source of information was something more concrete than the PetDiabetes Wiki, but it is what it is.

just a suggestion... when you make a general statement like that it might be a good idea to to back it up with your source. that way the remark can be read as written and in context. to say "you can pre-fill levemir syringes but not lantus" leaves me with a different impression than "Levemir appears to work fine when stored overnight in syringes for prepared dosing". kwim?

that said, i do remember a few FDMB members prefilling lev syringes back in 2006 when lev was introduced in the USA. they tried it on their own... and it didn't seem to affect kitty adversely. by the same token, we've had members using lantus who have chosen to prefill a week or two worth of lantus syringes without any apparent problems, but it didn't make it into the PetDiabetes Wiki.

personally, if i found myself in a situation where i thought it best to prefill syringes using levemir OR lantus... i'd do it. i think i told you that when you first asked me about it quite some time ago.

however, i suppose the same reasons for not pre-filling a lantus syringe could/would apply to pre-filling a levemir syringe as discussed in this article: Pre-filling Syringes with Lantus?. the article doesn't address levemir... probably because the article wasn't published until 2003... the same year levemir was finally approved for use in europe only.

it does give one pause for thought though...

Re: 5/13 Rusty AMPS 147, +4.5 149, PMPS 118

Hi again,
Thanks to Jill and Marje for this conversation on pre-filling syringes (with Lev., or maybe also, with Lantus). It is a topic that comes up from time to time on the board and I had always thought that it was a no-no to pre- fill a syringe for a cat sitter to use later.

Rusty apparently had a good day and may even have been in the lagoon. He was happy to see us when we got home from the paddle, only 1/2 hour before PMPS. So we had a good combing and he enjoyed his "Cabin Fever" dinner (Wild Calling! Chicken). The beans had a wonderful paddle, only slightly marred by the blackflies, which have hatched, but aren't really biting yet (but still, they are all around your head!). The rain held off and it wasn't too hot. A lovely day on the water. Picture enclosed:

Off to visit some condos, Hope all is well in LL,

Ella & Rusty

Hi Ella ~O)

What a nice day for Rusty. I love the numbers today and I too bet he made it to the lagoon. GO RUSTY!

I too thank you guys for the discussion on pre-filling syringes. I too always was told that it is a no no. But I also know if it meant getting a dose in I probably would have done it, for the sanity of the person giving the dose. I enjoyed the discussion. And Jill - I too think it would be beneficial to cite sources when using info from another source, and nothing can be taken out of context.

Ella, loved the photo. I'm glad you guys had a great time! Glad too that the black flies weren't too much of a nuisance. I hate those things....

Have a great relaxing evening.

Rusty - Lola and Bug wanna know if they can sample some of Tess's violet and Lavender Flower Sorbet... They so hope she made a trial batch... See ya! Elsa

Oh my goodness, Rusty, what are you doing down there? It's way too late at night for a swim! Hop up on your board and surf back toward shore, please! Your beans had a lot of fresh air and exercise today and are tired. Be a good boy, now.

I hope he comes up for you soon, Ella, so you can get some uninterrupted sleep!
