I have been procrastinating this Vet Visit for awhile. Diabetic wise Oliver has been doing fairly well. Less Insulin and I thought maybe he was going OTJ possibly over time.
Took the spread sheet and He was very impressed. We decided to just give Oliver 1 Unit once a day. AM for awhile to see how he does.
The examination revealed a swollen spleen and/ or a swollen Liver. We could have done a bunch of test to see which and after all that not really be able to do much. With the diabetes it kinda holds ya back from a lot of steroid treatments etc. He thought maybe it could be cancer or some other uncureable disease of one or the other.
I have opted against going any further. He is 15 yrs old very frail and skinny, lazy, having rare accidents, and a little vomiting lately. SO its definately something else wrong.
I am preparing myself , making him Happy and comfortable, spoiling him with whatever he needs and wants to do. Outside in the grass on nice spring days. He is the love of my life and I will miss him beyond words. But know that I would NEVER want him to suffer. So we are hanging and seeing how it goes. Pray he just falls asleep and goes to be with Jesus. I will keep ya all posted on Him.... that said he is eating and drinking, I have moved all his stuff upstairs, so he does not have to go up and down the stairs.
He is spending a lot of time behind the toilet which started a few weeks ago. (NEVER BEFORE) ??? But I bring him out cuddle and make beds all over. Play cat nip bubbles and will just be giving him.... The Cereal Milk, the cheese, anything he wants and add a little dry food in if need be.
Thanks for all the advise and it is appreciated now too.

(((Kelly))) I am so sorry the vetty results were not better. :YMHUG: Did you have blood work done? Or just the physical exam? Sending lots of healing and feel better vines for Oliver. Spend lots of quality time with him, take pictures, do videos, create lots of good memories.

I'm not sure why the vet suggested just one shot of 1U per day. As the fur shot this morning shows, he'd just be high for half the day with only one shot. It would probably be better to give a lower dose twice a day.

I sorry that the vet visit wasn't more positive. Are you sure there's nothing more that's not invasive that can be done?

I agree with Wendy. Oliver's numbers are likely to be better with twice a day dosing.

Sorry to hear the visit didn't go well :YMHUG:

It seems a little strange to have him not know if it's the spleen or liver since they're on opposite sides of the body (at least in humans!) Might be worth the expense to get a little bloodwork done...see if his liver enzymes are out of whack or anything.

So many things can cause enlargement of either of those organs

I agree with Wendy and Sienne though...we know Lantus does better with twice/day dosing, and I think I'd at least try going to .5 and see how Oliver does.

None of us knows how much time we have, so just keep loving him and making good memories for when that time does come.

Sending some of those wonderful LL healing vines to Oliver too

((((kelly))))

i'm sorry you didn't get better news from the vet visit.

Oliver sounds like a special little guy - and like he's been a joy in your life. I hope he keeps plugging along and surprises both you and the vet! You never know.

You hometest a lot and know how to adjust his dose so well. i'd keep on as you're doing, and if you want to do what the vet has suggested, i'd split it and give 2 shots of 0.5u, and if you need to reduce that, do 2 shots of 0.25u. Kitties have such a fast metabolism that they really do need some insulin every 12hrs rather than going 24 hrs. He'll feel better if his blood sugar is closer to normal range and flatter instead of going high-low-high-low over and over again.

Sending lots of healing thoughts for Oliver your way - and hugs for you. :YMHUG:
