last night Brutus hit 43 after dose increase, theres seems to be no middle ground here.Today at + 7 89, so not quite so much of a drop.we will see what pmps brings and if we get to stay up late or not!

Hey Brutus - What's up? You have some very interesting low numbers, good for you. Are you trying to us something here?? We believe you can do it, so get to it. You Dad is a great guy, you are so lucky to have him. Keep getting better buddy!

today was obviously just a bounce (which is now breaking) from last night's low. when you try to hang onto the dose in order to bring the ENTIRE range down, you'll want to feed the curve. we don't want brutus to drop below 50, soooooooo...

pmps 302
+1 251 <----- no food spike. this is telling.
+2 164 <----- uh-oh. almost a 100 point drop here from +1. the +2 *should be* about the same as the ps number. FEED to slow down the momentum. you'll have to experiment to figure out if you need to feed lc, mc, or hc given these circumstances.
+3 100 <----- there's still a lot of cycle left. if feeding at +2 didn't leave you with a higher number here, you'd want to feed again.
+4 43 <----- chances are, this won't happen if you've already been feeding the curve. :-D
+5 74
+6 65

make sense?

Hi Jill, so I think you are saying I want to control the curve by feeding , keeping the drop more gradual , not just waiting until he hits a bottom number that is uncomfortable and then bringing him out of it with hc. By keeping him above 50 we may avoid the bounce? I think I read somewhere on this board that letting a cat go to 40's or even 30's was what earned a dose decrease, but it seems to me that could be dangerous, and the extreme up and down would not feel good for Mr cat.

yes, don't wait for the low number to show up on your meter before you feed.
50 is just a cut-off number. keeping him above 80 is perfectly ok.

yes, dropping below 40 or 50 "earns" a reduction, BUT... you want to get brutus back to the falls. if you take a reduction every time he drops below 40 or 50... you'll never get him into those low flat green cycles. that's where we want him. we don't want pinks, yellows, and blues framing those greens. in order to get there, you can control the curve. by controlling the curve, you'll be able to stay at higher doses of insulin (because you're not letting him bottom out). higher doses of insulin will be able to pull down those higher numbers which are currently on either side of his greens.

and yes, by feeding to control the curve you're also controlling the drop... making it a more gradual drop. kitties are less likely to bounce from gradual drops. it's a win-win situation. the added benefit is you'll probably be getting to bed earlier, too.
