Hi all
Tiggy has been doing pretty well so far! He's been in the "green" since yesterday [5/12/15 AMPS = 86 / PMPS = 95; 5/13/15 AMPS = 95], and has been mostly "blue" with a few "greens" along the way for the past few weeks. And, this has been with diet alone..No insulin!! I'm planning on doing another glucose curve sometime at the end of this week in order to get as few more numbers on his SS. I have checked his ketones [0 ketones], so that appears to be good. Not sure if he will need a tad bit of insulin or not to keep him at this level but I'm assuming doing the BG curve as well as more BG checks will help assess this.
Tiggy had a slight bump up on his AMPS on 5/11/15, but that may have been due to him feeding close to his BG test .[still trying to get Tigz training to use the automatic feeder as he's scared of it. He's used to just eating off a flat plate. Have been trying to train him to use the automatic feeder by putting one of his fav low-carb "treats" in each of the 5 automatic feeding trays and setting the timer so he gets the idea that if he uses the feeder, it's reward time..and it is a "good thing"..we'll see how long it takes for him to catch on!
I've also been sending Tiggy's vet his SS and she is very happy with this progress. Tiggy has also lost a few pounds from his initial 18.1 lbs, so that is good, especially for his arthritis. He really appears to be feeling very good as once his diabetes was controlled (and his UTI was treated / resolved), he was back to his usual "chatty" "chirpy" self and is now again very playful and lovey! Even his non-diabetic bro, Boo, has lost weight, which has helped his arthritis as well.
Here's hoping Tiggy stays "in the green"!! Best wishes to all!
