PMPS 219
Just when I thought that we were going to slide back up, he is lower than expected for his PMPS.
Considering the hissy fit that he threw at the vet's when they took his blood, I am surprised that he was not higher tonight.

Now we just have to wait for the tests to come back. I was told that they wouldn't even start the Acro test until NEXT Wednesday.
I am not a patient person. I think I need some of the "patience pants" that are floating around here from time to time.

Nice sunny start tonight! :) Some cats (like those named Neko) go lower at the vet. Her blood pressure however, skyrockets.

I timed things the worst possible way for the acro/IAA tests. They only run the acro test once a week and have to do an overnight blood spin. IAA they run more often so you might get those results sooner.

I've been meaning to ask, is Tennie on anything for his arthritis? My civie just got diagnosed with it, Neko has it, previous civie had it. Sigh!

is Tennie on anything for his arthritis?
No, nothing at this point, except cosequin. Which had seemed to help with his mobility.
But I had been wondering if it was related to his high numbers. He was much higher in the winter when it was colder.
Now that it has warmed up considerably, his numbers are much lower.

Pain can make the numbers higher. Neko has quite bad arthritis. Arthritis treatments fall into two camps, those that deal with the joints themselves and those for pain relief. Neko is on a glucosamine chondroitin supplement (the civie is on Cosequin), Hyaflex which is hyaluronic acid for the joints, and she gets Cartrophen shots - the equivalent in the US is Adequan. For pain relief she gets buprenorphine daily, and periodic acupuncture appointments which I supplement with acupressure. I think most people start with something like Cosequin which can be added to the food, then add more things if needed.

the best test to confirm arthritis is an xray.
Shadow went otj with some slightly blue-r numbers.... when I found out she was very arthritic.... and gave her adequan and bupe,
her numbers went down to perfect range.
The only reason she's back on the juice now is because she has to take prednisolone for a while.

as mine got older, I could just tell that she wasn't feeling so great.
once we did the x-rays and the vet saw her bones, I asked her about adequan because of learning from others here.
I also bought cosequin, and fish oil but those didn't seem to help.
I noticed her sleeping better and getting more playful on the adequan. And then when I added the bupe ( only once a day currently but
I may start am and pm)
I only give a tiny dose ( 0.1 mL) of bupe to knock the edge off. I noticed she has trouble with normal doses of pain meds.... they make her
agitated and wired and unhappy.
so it was definitely some trial and error.

the funny thing is from the last ultrasound on her digestive system, the internist told me that adequan wouldn't help her hip since she doesn't have that joint. So it may be that it's affecting her front shoulders and elbows.... they showed arthritis too.
She used to jump from a wall in our house that's 11 ft high.

You may just have to ask your vet....
it sure made a difference for Shadow's qol.

My civie just had x-rays (for a limp) and that's when the vet noticed arthritis. His vet is recommending cartrophen (adequan) and acupuncture. If you think Tennie is slowing down or not jumping as much, talk to the vet about next steps. Rhiannon is right, I also add fish oil as an anti-inflammatory and have been giving Duralactin, another anti-inflammatory that seems to be helping.
