Yo Hon had to cancel her internet access because it was too expensive. Then the people at work clamped down, so she can't post from work now either.

Rags is doing ok. The vet has upped the dose from 1.5U to 2U on 5/5/13. Not much testing going on because the vet says she can tell everything she needs to know from a single midday number.

I told Becki to use another test strip and get another test if the mid-day number is so much higher than the AMPS. Or so much higher than what the midday number had been the day before.

I also talked to her about the smell of insulin, smelling like bandaids and checking for wet spot in the fur after shooting the insulin. Two ways to check for a fur shot.

Becki and I talked on Saturday evening. She wants to test more and said she will be testing before each pre-shot from now on. The vet did not want her to test before pre-shot. Becki is not comfortable with not testing at the pre-shots but has been doing only what the vet wanted. Becki listens to those in authority so that is the way it is for now.

I also talked to Becki about why spreading the food out into smaller mini-meals helps to regulate the BG numbers. Her vet insists that feeding only 2 times a day, before the insulin shots, is the only way to go. We talked and decided to split the food into 4 portions, feed 1 can FF in am, feed 1 can FF at midday after she gets home from work, feed 1 can FF in PM, feed last 1/2 can FF at night before she goes to bed. Rags is hungriest in the morning and not very hungry at night so this seemed like a good plan for feeding. Becki will try this food plan.

Becki and I also talked about testing. She is very uncomfortable about doing something her vet does not want her to do. She finally said she will do 3 tests a day for now. AMPS, midday +6 and PMPS. I tried to sneak in a 4th, before bed test but she was not buying it.

There should be a new curve being done in the next few days.

I'm hoping to talk to her every few days, to get the most recent numbers and to see how things are going.

Becki has given me access and permission to update her google spreadsheet with the BG numbers. I've added it to my signature link for now.

That's the update for now. I'll try to keep posting for yo hon and Rags as often as I get more information.

You are a very special person for doing all you are doing for Yo hon, Deb :YMHUG: Thank you. I appreciate the updates.

Thank you, Deb, for relaying Rags' update and how he and Yo hon are doing. She started here not long before I did and I know they've been through a lot already. I was worrying that she hadn't posted an update recently.

Hopefully they'll both continue to do well. It's hard to question authority figures sometimes.

I've never understood why we have been unable to get her to grasp "you can do whatever you want, no matter what the vet thinks, and just NOT TELL THE VET what you're doing". She completely understands the logic and the safety factor in testing before every pre-shot. Obviously her vet doesn't. She doesn't even have to lie to the vet. Just don't say anything. Just nod her head a lot and say "okay" with a smile on her face. Her vet has no experience with Lantus, and it sounds like not much experience with feline diabetes, period. At this point, Becki knows more than her vet does.

Bless you, Deb, for sticking with her.
