5/12 Darcy AMPS 318, BGs gone crazy. Giving R.

Suzanne & Darcy

Member Since 2020
Not eating enough to keep body and soul together (I'm feeding him). Darcy is only eating a little Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein Chicken kibble. He has lost interest in all other foods. I will try the Tiny Tiger soon. He did drink a little tuna water a few minutes ago after pills. Otherwise seems quite happy. Preening, pooping (although I've given him diarrhea with force feeding), peeing, purring. Everything but playing... well, he played a little with the catnip banana this morning.

Going to vet in a few hours.

Wishing happiness and health to all of you and your kitties!

Crossing all fingers, toes, paws and tails here for a good vet visit. :bighug::bighug:

Maybe it's the Dr. Elsey's raising his numbers - I've seen a few people complain that it's raising the BG. But if he eats it, you can always dose around it.

Back from vet. BUN is quite high again so that is why he is not eating. It was 111. Phosphorus is very good at 3.2. Creatinine is still high at 5.4 but still it hasn’t really risen. The only thing I can do to try and get his BUN down os to go to fluids twice a day instead of once a day. He hasn’t lost weight though, so I guess we have done an okay job with the supplemental feeding (mu daughter and I — don’t know what I would do without my nurse/assistant.)

All other bloodwork really well inside normal limits. Blood pressure good. Temperature 102.1.

The vet agreed that he does not look like a sick cat.

We will soldier on...

Tomorrow it looks like I will increase to 3.5 units.

YAY!!! More healing hugs and prayers Darcy is blessed to have you as his Mama Bean:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sending loving prayers for a hungry tummy and vet visit. You both have been on my mind. I will check in later. Hope your back problems are better Suzanne. Healing prayers for both you and Darcy. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

That appetite thing, SO FRUSTRATING. Relieved to hear the rest of the vet news was mostly ok except the BUN. Darcy and Minnie were twinsies at AMPS today though I only went for the futile 0.25u of R.

Phosphorus is very good at 3.2.
This sounds like a green light for darcines (with binder) and tiny tiger! I hope he likes them after all my marketing.

:bighug::bighug: hang in there.

Great news on the phosphorus! And the other good numbers. What dose of Cerenia and ondansetron are you giving?

You could get a job hawking them for Trader Joes!

Thank you everyone for all of your thoughts, pryers and well wishes! Y’all are are really wonderful people, did you know that?

Oh Suzanne, my heart bleeds for you and all you have been doing for your sweet Darcy. I fear Ruby is heading in the same direction with her kidneys but we'll see tomorrow. I've also been feeding Dr. Elsey's kibble and have basically resigned myself to stop worrying about her BGs and getting her to get something, anything! In the meantime, I hope he is enjoying playing with his catnip banana (we have a catnip carrot that is very popular among the felines) and that he eats some for you. Big big hugs to you! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh and I know that you feed raw so I am sorry to suggest so canned food. I only meant if all else fails. I think maybe she will feel better tomorrow! I just was telling my daughter about Ruby, and I showed her Ruby’s photo and she was ooohing and aaahing about her sweet face and beautiful eyes.

Tiny Tiger from Chewy seems very palatable! I’m going to try it with the phosphate binder added. He used to like it. He is up on the bed eating the kibble right now! Yes, he is so spoiled that I put a pad down on the bed and he is allowed to eat the kibble on the bed if he wants to.
The things we do...at times Minnie doesn't even stand up to eat, I put the bowl near her and she eats lying down. She is not even sick, just a DIVA. Darcy is an invalid and he deserves this treatment. Except not the darcines. I would not put darcines on the bedspread. Little spines everywhere...creepy.

Sending prayers for Darcy I hope giving the fluids twice a day helps ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, Diane. I was going through some past condos today and saw your kind offer to send me the aluminum hydroxide binder. If you are still willing, I will send you my address and you can send it when you are able. I can then reimburse you for postage. I am not sure how I missed this before. I think I was in a bit of shock having just received the bad news about Darcy’s kidneys.

No. Not even I would put those little fishies on the bed! Not even with a special pad there ... too much potential for residual fish smell! Oh, and he likes me to hand feed him the kibble.

I'm so sorry I always miss your post. I guess I am not on the computer much late afternoon and evening. I'm sorry you are going through all of this and I hope you can get him to start eating better. I don't know what else to say but that you have lots of folks praying and hoping for a good outcome for your boy.
