Good morning LL!

It's been crazy at tbp and at home so I didn't have time to post a condo yesterday. Sunny yellow today. Happy furry purry guy with all 5 p's present.

OT - We have a "duck situation" going on at our house. Does anyone have any great ideas on how to discourage Mallard ducks from using a swimming pool as it's home? We have had a pair of ducks that have taken residence in our pool since March. That wouldn't be a big deal but Charlie is going nuts and keeps trying to get them to leave, thus reinjuring his sprained leg. We were up for 2 hours Wednesday night from 2 - 4 trying to get the male duck to leave because Charlie would not rest until he was gone. The duck was determined to stay and nothing would get him to leave. I'm sad to say that Charlie finally got rid of him for us. However, now we are concerned that there is a nest somewhere near since the duck was so determined not to leave. Oy. We have spent way too much on knee repair for Charlie and don't want to see harm come to the remaining female and any eggs that might be near. I'm sure we were a sight to see in our pajamas waving nets around for two hours the other night. We woke our next door neighbors and I think probably half of the rest of the neighborhood.

I am headed to Norman on Sunday. We move Mason into an apartment on Monday so I am going to help him pack, clean and then get settled in the new place.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hoping for lower #s for Mr. T today, and every day. *HUGS*

The only thing that I can think of to discourage the duck is putting something overtop the pool, depending on the size. If that doesn't work, Animal Control, or the SPCA, or someone, or even a game warden...?

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

Thanks Angela! I called the SPCA yesterday and they gave us some ideas, but said they get hundreds of calls from pool owners and there was really nothing they could do. I went to the pool store and bought 5 floats - an alligator, a hippo, etc and blew them all up last night and we now have them all floating in the pool. It didn't appear that there were any visitors last night.

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

Hi Melissa, I missed you yesterday but know how busy tbp can be at times for you. Wow, no advice from me, but the floaties seem to be working. I sure hope it helps. Have a nice time visiting Mason and helping him get settled in an apartment, so much to do there. Great timing for Mother's Day, too, with him. :-D

Hi guys .. sunny yellow indeed for mr tarragon! No advice from me on the pool situation .. I just hope you don't trade one problem for another .. getting rid of the duck, only to have charlie upset there is an alligator in his pool! Have a great weekend and good luck with the move!

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

Very nice start for Tarragon today - such a sunny yellow. I wish Mannie had stayed with his buddy.

Good luck with the ducks. Oh my... i hope the blow-ups do the trick.

Enjoy your day !!

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

Nice start to the day for Mr. T!!!

Yikes on the duck invasion. I sure hope there aren't any little chicks in your future. Charlie will go NUTS for sure!!!

Have a nice time with Mason. You're baby is growing up. Danielle took her last final yesterday (she had to take it online so she was home). She says, "Hey Mom, I'm officially done with my junior year of college." To which I replied, "Thanks for making me sad, Danielle." Time is flying by waaaay too fast!!

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

That a nice yellow for Tarragon....sounds like minute movies at your place! Hope the floating things keep working...my goodness....never a dull moment, eh?

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

Yellow morning! That's pretty close to blue, want to make it official, Mr. T?Sheesh on the ducks! Is the female still around? I hope Charlie settles down now.

Have a good time w/ Mason, well, aside from the cleaning and moving. But even that should be fun w/ him.

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

Hi Melissa,
I don't think that Mallards would nest near a pool. They need vegetation. They eat plant matter. Do you have a lot of algae in your pool? Also, I believe that the male Mallard usually leaves once the chicks have hatched, but if the eggs have just been fertilized and Mamma duck has to sit on the nest, he may have been frantic to bring her food. After the eggs hatch, Mamma Mallard is left to care for the ducklings. It could be that you disturbed a mating pair. The best thing would be to call your state's wildlife office, especially if you know where the nest is. I'm so sorry that you and Charlie had to go through this (and that the Mallard was a casualty).

Nice AMPS for Tarragon today. Good luck with moving Mason into his apartment!

Have a good weekend,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 5/11 Tarragon AMPS 235

If the floating things work, maybe you could rotate them so the ducks don't get used to them. Charlie is so diligent about his yard.

Look at that green!! Melissa, I have never had a problem with ducks in my pool. How crazy is that! The only problem I have is chipmunks in the skimmer. So sad when I find one. The idea of all the floats seems like a good plan and hope it works because Charlie does not need anymore surgery.

Good luck on the Mason's big move!

One of those robo pool cleaners that move in random circles and edges maybe?

Mr. T! What a bootiful day you had!

BIG HUG Michelle, try to stay dry, hope the bad part doesn't go over you...

Well, no advice on the ducks, other then what was mentioned already, but it looks like you are going to have another busy night! Hope you get some rest soon.
