My vet place my Foxie on 12hr regiment.Today was her first shot.
He wants her to eat twice a day.
I'm going back to see him in two weeks.
I m new in here and love to read all your posts,
Thank you
Liliana

@Liliana Treeman ....we've found it's actually easier on the pancreas to deal with several small meals a day instead of 2 big ones. Most vets are still suggesting only feeding twice a day because that's how it used to be done, especially with the older type insulins like Vetsulin/Caninsulin

With the newer, better insulins for cats, it's not AS important that there's food on board when you shoot.....just that they're eating fairly normally

Bump!

@Liliana Treeman ... Welcome to the Lantus & Levemir Insulin Support Group!
I've moved your posts to create a new thread here for you. I was concerned your questions would get lost in the "TR with a Full Time Job" thread.

Like Chris said, most of us feed small "mini-meals" during the first half of the 12 hour cycle after a shot has been given. Although, there are some kitties who prefer to have food left out for them to nibble on all day.

If kitty is free fed, it's *usually* best to pick the food up approximately 2 hours before the next shot time. Eating will often cause BG numbers to spike if kitty is allowed to eat within those two hours prior to a shot. We try to avoid shooting a preshot number influenced by feeding right before shot time.

Welcome and hope to see you posting often! :D
