Re: 5/10 Polly AMPS 440

Hi Marilyn,

I completely relate to the frustration! Marje (and Gracie) have patience pants that they pass out to new members for these bounces. Marje is pretty busy right now and away from the board, but I'm sure some other members will be happy to loan you some of theirs! They loaned me patience pants several times while we were waiting out some bounces.

Let's hope that Polly decides red isn't her color and slides back down into some better colors (numbers)!

Hope you have a good day!
Shelly

it does help to have people explain what's happening with the blood sugar numbers and how to improve them. you'll pick it up quickly! in the meantime, keep asking questions.

I'm glad you increased to 0.75u. Let's give it 6 cycles and then re-evaluate to see if you should hold longer or if she needs to go up. we tell people not to get attached to a dose because we tweak them all the time to try to get numbers as good as possible.

i saw in yesterday's post Sienne suggested you complete a profile - that's a great idea. Otherwise we're going to be asking you the same questions over and over again about Polly's medical background.

have a great day, marilyn!

Questions? Yes, I'll keep asking!

1. Polly's bounces seem so severe. Is that an indicator of how long the bounce will last? 3 days?
2. I need to move shot times 30 minutes ahead of the 6:30/6::30 I'm doing now so I can get a +2 reading in the morning before work. Incremental moves each day? 10 minutes? Less? More?

Looked at control panel "profile" but just saw spots for info about me.
How do I do a profile for Polly? (I am a computer dufus)

Thanks,

Marilyn who's going to keep watching her little superball bounce
and Polly, the Siamese-superball mix

Hi Marilyn,

Glad to see that you're asking question! When you do have questions, you can use the "?" icon in the subject line of your very first post. That way, people can see at a glance that you do have questions. When your question has been answered to your satisfaction, you can then go back and remove the "?" That's just a tip to help you get answers more quickly.

I'll leave the first question to the more experienced users. In terms of your second question.....it's generally recommended that you move shot times by 15 minutes each cycle or 30 minutes once in a day.

In terms of the profile, it's going to be a document that's located in Google Drive - just like your spreadsheet is. Here is the link to the instructions for setting up a profile: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=79123. If you have any problems setting it up, just let us know!

Welcome to LantusLand! You are doing a terrific job with everything. The learning curve is steep and can be overwhelming at times, give yourself a LOT of credit. :-D :-D Hopefully the bounces will get less severe then disappear completely. Paws crossed!

Re: 5/10 Polly AMPS 440, +2=315, +7=175, +9=300

her bouncing isn't what i would call severe - part of it is that we haven't gotten her to a "good" dose yet. When there's enough insulin in her and we're seeing nadirs in the green numbers, then some of those high numbers may come down.

typically a cat's bouncing will lessen in both intensity and duration as they get used to better numbers. At the beginning it might last the entire 3 days, but when they're spending lots of time in green numbers and getting ready to stop bouncing, they might only have a half-hearted "mini-bounce" that's just a few hours long, then they return to green. Our goal is to get to those green numbers and keep helping her body get used to them, so that her liver recognizes the normal numbers as normal.

Shelly's right - you can typically move 30 minutes all at once, unless you're seeing something like a 50. With 300's at preshot there should be no issue of moving 30 minutes early.

About the profile - you can also just open a google doc and post the link to that in your signature line. That's what i did. The important thing is we just want to know the history, age, especially any medical issues, and the food for every cat, etc. You can open mine to see what i included.

If you want to do that, go to Google, then select that 3x3 grid of cubes on the upper right corner. A menu will drop down from those cubes, select "drive."
From Drive, choose "create" in the upper left side of the page and then choose document.
Then add whatever information is important, name and save it. Before you leave the document, go to the upper right corner where it says "share." You want to change that setting so it's public on the web, or so anyone with the link can see it.
