Max isn’t feeling well today. We had watery vomit around 4:30 this morning. This isn’t unusual for him, happens every few days. But then he threw up food at 8:30-ish (second breakfast was at 8) and then had some diarrhea outside the litter box. He was laying right by it like he didn’t feel well. I had to move him to clean it up and then he went and laid on the couch, where his is otherwise looking fine. I suspect it was the adequan, both of those side effects were mentioned in all the reading I did. Hopefully it’s a one-time occurrence. I’ll be home for a few more hours, and can keep an eye on him.

I have noticed a twitchy head tremor kind of thing happening on occasion...looks like his ears itch but he’s not trying to scratch? This has been since the diabetes diagnosis, but I’ve not noticed any pattern and it doesn’t seem to bother him. I pet him and it stops. The kids saw it this morning and said something about it, so I figured I’d ask here if anyone knows what this is?

I feel like I notice Alice doing some weird twitch in her hind/side area sometimes, but then I figure it's my anxiety making a mountain out of a molehill.
Sorry not much help to your question but I've wondered little things like that too.

I don't know anything about Max's medicine but I hope he is feeling better. Is there a nausea med he can also have??

Feel better Max!

Mowgli has those little twitches too, they aren't all the time but they are noticeable. They started after we switched to Lantus. I have read a few reviews of Lantus that owners have noticed similar side affects so I just blamed it on the insulin. @AliceMeowliss&Cassandra did you notice Alice's twitch after starting Lantus or before? we all seem to have the same insulin in common.:bookworm:

I feel like my working theory is correct... blame it on the Lantus haha (the twitches not the puking)

Thanks everyone! I feel like there were twitches when he was on Novolin too...but I could be totally wrong. There have been so many things he’s done that we’ve chalked up to ‘just being old’ that I honestly don’t know when it started. Good to know I can continue to not worry about those!

Cassandra, I remembered I could give him some pepcid about an hour after the puke, so I did that. It can affect the kidneys, so we reserve that for when he’s extra pukey, and I always forget it’s part of the toolbox. I put it on today’s notes on the spreadsheet so that if it happens again with the next adequan dose I can hopefully remember it sooner. And if we have a repeat performance, start giving it along with the adequan. He’s physically looking soooooooo much better than he did a few months ago (he’s gained weight and his coat is soft and clean and shiny again), that I really want the adequan to work and give him back a little of his bounce. He’s always been so regal and proud, this aging thing has been sad to see.

Well, we had more watery vomit between 10:15 and 11:45. I was taking a shower and doing things at the other end of the house, so i don’t know. But at +7.5 he was at 80, and then started prowling for water, so He must be a little dehydrated. Hopefully this stays down. In positive news, tho, he jumped up into 2 bathtubs, which he hasn’t done in quite a while.

That's great! from the way you describe him it really sounds like Max is feeling and looking more like himself lately... such a relief :D

73 @ 8.25, and seems to be feeling better. He was sleeping in my room while I was gone, but came right out when we walked in the door.

Goodness...looks like Max is trying to drive me crazy. Pmps was only 105, and +2 was 69. He’s getting some 2nd dinner nibbles at the moment, tho his appetite is not terribly high today. We’ve reduced the amount of food in the feeder so we have a better chance of getting him to eat some 14% later if he needs to (and in the hopes that he won’t throw up again). We’re home, so I’ll keep a close eye on him, and see if he drops below 50 again. I’ll be testing again at +3, which is 8:45 eastern.

Well crap. My mom called and I got distracted. We registered 40 @ +3.25. I fed a tablespoon of 14% with a drop of honey mixed in, and he gobbled it all down. I’ll test again at 9:30 eastern (+3.75).

He’s acting fine, bit for him that means curled ip on the couch sleeping. He didn’t like it when I tried to test him without warming his ear first (they were cold), but then he sat right up when the food came out.

45 @ +4, so we’re making progress, albeit slowly. We’ll be reducing to .5U in the morning. I’ll be gone all day reffing soccer games, but the fam will be at home in the morning. I’ll probably have hubs put some of his regular LC food out around +6 just in case. They’ll be gone for the afternoon for daughter’s soccer game.

Or...since I’m going to be gone, do I give him .25U to drain the depot a little? I suppose it depends on his amps too, and how hard he bounces...

54@4.25 and he was pretty mad when I poked him this time. He worried me when he didn’t wake up when I started petting him, but now he’s off the couch and moving about.
