Gizmo was doing great last Thursday when he went for his checkup. However, he became a picky eater shortly after that. Now he is eating decent again, but Tuesday night he started peeing everywhere. He peed in the bathtub right in front of me and then later that night he peed in his tunnel in front of my husband. Yesterday, this behavior continued. He isn’t even trying to go to the litter box, just pees wherever (on his feeder, in my daughters dollhouse) and then is laying in it. :(

Wondering if this is related to the mass that was found. Guessing it is in some way. Hoping for some answers today. Poor Gizmo spent the night in the boxer’s cage from when she was a puppy. It is the perfect size for a litter box, bed, and some extra space.

Will update when I have the results.

Mass is on his liver. Pancreas and kidneys look good. She suspects lymphoma. We would have to go to a specialist to confirm and begin treatment. Said that most cats respond very well to the chemo pill. Also taking urine to see if possible infection.

ETA - several small masses throughout the liver; Still waiting on urine results

It very much depends on the type of cancer and prognosis, I don’t know much about that, but oral chemo is very well tolerated by cats, it’s not the chemo you think of with humans. My friend’s cat had oral chemo a few years ago and you wouldn’t know anything was different, she was still a cat and acted like herself (and she’s still here, she’s about 15 years old now).

So she thought the pee pee pants was entirely unrelated to the mass? I hope the UA comes back quick and you can get that handled.

Hugs to you, these decisions are rarely easy to make, but at least you know what the issue is. You will do what is right for Gizmo, I have no doubt about that. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I treated my Tiffany who had intermediate cell lymphoma with chemo injections. The object with our animals is to get them I to remission rather than cure so they usually start to feel better and not worse but some are cured. She didn’t have masses but was treated aggressively. You would need a biopsy to determine what type of cancer. That can’t be determined by ultrasound. With small cell lymphoma there usually aren’t masses. It’s treated with two pills. There are protocols for other cancers that treat with pills. A consult with an oncologist ASAP is a good idea to discuss all options. I ended up going to the ER so treatment could be started when I couldn’t get an appointment soon enough. I’m sorry about the cancer and hope it’s treatable.

I had a cat on the oral chemo (chlorambusil) for lymphoma and he did very well for almost two years. I used the generic from a compounding pharmacy; about a third of the very expensive price.

Masses typically mean not small cell. Both Neko and her civie Theo were treated for small cell. Neko couldn't have a biopsy for it due to her heart preventing anesthesia. The two cats handled the chemo differently. Neko not so well, but she had heart disease, kidney disease, yada yada... She needed antinausea meds around chemo pill time, which was once every 2 weeks. Depending where on the liver, outcomes can be better. A friend just had her dog's liver mass removed and he's doing well.

Besides the hugs, sending you clarity for your decision. You know him best. Please give Gizmo some scritches from me.

No masses, small cell. I also had a cat recently with intermediate cell and masses in her lymph nodes who was on injected chemo. Unfortunately she only responded for a couple of weeks but ECID. Previously had two cats with large cell who got very sick so quickly (one had spread to kidneys, one probably to brain) that I did not do chemo for them. It's a terribly hard choice to make and has to be based on chances for a good QOL along with financial etc factors.
 
I feel your pain! Forrest , civvie has a cyst around his kidney and started peeing everywhere. He does most of his business outside but, if I don't get up when he cries, anywhere from 4:30AM on to let him outside.......

No signs of infection in urine. Said probably trying to tell us something. But he doesn’t appear to be in pain, so won’t prescribe pain meds. There is something wrong with him. I just wish they would at least give him something to make him comfortable.

Not sure what to do at this point. Said he probably has 2-3 months without treatment and maybe a year with. Doesn’t seem like a good prognosis either way. :(

He is eating well, but really doesn’t want anything to do with me other than food. :(
 
I'm sorry today was tough :bighug:, you have a lot going on. I was also going to suggest Gabapentin, I used it on my old drooler, it's supposed to help with nerve pain, and does have a calming affect. I can't imagine why the vet wouldn't expect some pain associated with the mass? Hope tomorrow is a bit better :bighug:

Maybe your vet would reconsider something to make him comfortable...I was given Gabapentine to calm Beenie for a trip to the vet. Its used as a pain med too. I would ask the vet what harm it would do.

I do have some gabapentin for my civvie. But it is a high dose (seemed like it anyways) and he has lost so much weight (they used to be close) that I don’t feel comfortable giving it to him ... although the thought has crossed my mind.
 
Oh yes, of course, I would never suggest giving any meds without asking your vet first, it was more of a thought of what might help, that you could then inquire with your vet. To me it's a question of what you can give Gizmo to make him comfortable, I would hope it won't take severe signs of pain before your vet says ok, let's try something. :bighug:

Correct me if I missed something, but was the diagnosis from your regular vet? If so, I would recommend seeing an oncologist. I had extensive experience with cancer when all four of my cats (Harvey, Cinco and two civvies) were diagnosed with cancer in 2015. I had the good fortune to have them treated at UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The oncologists there were wonderful and were very candid about when treatment was worth it (as in chances of giving kitty some quality time) and when it wasn't. I was lucky enough to get an extra year with each of them. Harvey had intestinal lymphoma and was treated with Chlorambucil/Leukeran, and he did very well. We lost him a year later, but not to cancer - he also had CKD.

Whatever path you and Gizmo take, you have family here that cares about you and is sending loads of healing vines, thoughts, prayers and :bighug:s.
