some people give a small amount of coconut oil. You might try the fish oil and the DS separately at first, if you haven't tried those yet, before trying them together. I'd be worried they might be too much. I think the DS works by drawing water into the intestines, so I'd make sure you're adding water to his food, too.
Thank you @julie & punkin (ga). He'd be known as EB for a few days. This morning, patient oil and docusate were separated by a bit of time. This afternoon is EB and fish oil together.
He's very hydrated. Lots of liquid and food (raw), he drinks well, and gets sub-q every night.
Palpation doesn't indicate hardness. But there's nothing coming out. And he's eating well!
If he's eating raw, it's not unusual for them not to have a BM more often than every other day and it's also normal for it to look very dry and crumbly
He's been on raw for about 8-9 months, so I'm very familiar with his poop from raw. His diet hasn't changed at all in months, other than to change the proteins - and that was over 1.5 months ago. This behavior is VERY unusual. If there's anything I do know about my cat, it's what his poop looks like, and how it's behaved. I know my Eegie's poop better than I know my own.
That's why I'm concerned - this is VERY VERY different from anything he's ever had. He's never been constipated for this length- and it's never been dry and crumbly - but I'd settle for dry and crumbly at this point. With IBD, sometimes diarrhea and constipation appear interchangeable. It gets stopped up and then causes very loose poop around it. His volume is off - but last poop - Friday morning - the texture was improved.
Thank you, @Chris & China - but he is really really off...
On palpation, his abdomen feels normal, not full - but this is not like how his body poop - either during a flare, during a remission time, or during transitions or post new shots. His usual reactions and intestinal behaviors are reacting differently with the insulin in his system - and I'm trying to figure out what it is, and what's causing it, and how to fix it.
THank you, @Chris & China - I'm still working on it. He wouldn't STAND invasive treatment - his system's too delicate at this point, so I'm just trying.......
Only one day with the whole fish oil/docusate regimen. Don't want to do anything MORE strong yet (Miralax will be tried if this doesn't work by end of tomorrow) - but I worry about my boy! Thanks for the support...
I was massaging and palpating. He has some areas of stiffness in there - but not too high up, it seems. So.... maybe the petromalt and docusate and SEB need more time. Think I may stop the SEB though - don't want to build up too much fiber right now.
