Test 30 minutes after the food so it has a chance to work. You'll need to get more tests after that even if he's above 50 to make sure he doesn't slide back down when the food wears off. I don't know anything much about Prozinc, but I think the procedure for low numbers is pretty much the same with all the insulins. Good catch on getting him before he went lower!
He had dropped over 200 points in a little over 2 hours so I thought I better test again. Buds nadir is usually between +4 and +5 so early, but never this early!
Definitely get another test in 30 minutes - just to make sure he's staying up once the food starts to wear off. I've heard (and Rosa does it too) that some cats nadir early if they're going to drop low - it sounds like maybe that happened to Bud tonight.
I think Bud will be getting a dose reduction in the morning although I'm sure he'll bounce into the 400s by then. Although I've been predicting everything backwards lately...
I think he definitely gets a reduction for that - bounce or no bounce. And if he is all the way up in the 400s by morning at least you'll know what it is and how long to expect it to last.
Nice numbers - well controlled on getting him back up!
Hi @Thaiger & Katie! After that 49 and then a nice yellow AMPS, I was questioning my switch to Levemir. But that questioning quickly went away after the PMPS test of 440. So, Bud is on Levemir now. Except for Monday morning (which could possibly be attributed to some contraband food, as in hamster food...), his numbers seem to be better, but it's early in the Levemir game.
Thanks for the cheering section! Bud definitely needs it!
