taking a 45 min trip to stay overnight somewhere next week and taking the kitty and her insulin. I thought i should fill a cooler bag with some ice and put the insulin in that so it doesnt go bad. Any suggestions on doing this and if so how much ice? It s a 6pack bagged cooler. thx!

You don't want the insulin to freeze, so wrap something around the insulin between it and the freezer packs.

When my power went out for 3 1/2 hours I had a soft-sided 6 pack cooler with one ice pak. My insulin was in a large plastic container in a small cardboard box in the cooler. I had a thermometer in the cooler and the temperature actually dropped a few degrees through this time. This was kept in the house, but the ice pak works very nicely.

so use an ice pak or two and use a plastic bag would be ok??

An ice pak in a cooler bag should be fine. If the weather is extremely hot make sure the pak is not in direct sun. The insulin should not directly touch the ice pak in order to make sure that it does not freeze. Putting it into a small box or plastic container or putting a layer of material between the insulin and the ice pak should prevent that
