Re: BUD PMPS 109 NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE!

Hi Beth or Kara,
Sorry no one was on when you posted. Please always feel free to post on the Health board if you need eyes immediately.
It looks like you shot .8u's on a rising number, which is great. It looks like Bud may need another reduction soon (my opinion only). I'm sure others will be along to give their more experienced advice.
Looking good Bud!! :thumbup

Re: BUD PMPS 109 NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE!

Sorry I missed you. You did fine shooting the .8U. Is that your vet who made the comment across the spreadsheet?

The 311 this morning was most likely a bounce. Is there a reason there's no food left down for her during the day? I really can't agree with that, if that is the vet's direction. Food helps stimulate an awakening pancreas and also if she were to go lower than 50 she would probably want to eat which will help BG from going low and may prevent the bounce.

Re: BUD PMPS 109 NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE!

My decision to reduce to 0.8u (from Costa Rica-'m home now.) Just seamed that there were just too many wide swings in BGs - WAY too many reds and some yellows that made no sense to me.

As for not feeding her between tests yesterday: I felt like it' was the food that could have been contributing to the spikes in her BG and want to get her on set feedings and away from free feed. Also, I have a feeling that one or more cans of the LC we're feeding may not be as LC as we think. The type name does not match exactly that in the canned charts but there is nothing else close. So, I'm going to figure out which ones are suspect (as soon as I recover from the trip) and omit those from her diet. Kara seemed to have noticed this too. I'm almost to the point of just feeding her chicken breast and fish.

I did try to stay awake last night and get some more BGs but couldn't even get out of bed to set an alarm to get up. Sorry... bad mom, here.

I think it's a bounce too, but WHY at night? She went down only to 60 during the day. BUT was a huge drop from the 311. Then the PMPS was VERY nice.

I'd like to drop her down to 0.7 but she's only been on 0.8 for 6 cycles and I'm leary that it would not be enough and she'd rise.

She LOOKS GREAT! and is acting wonderfully! The best she's looked since being diagnosed. Kara did a great job.

On an aside: The vet feels that 'normal' BG is 100-180

Re: BUD PMPS 109 NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE!

Members here have tested non-diabetic cats in the 40s, 50s and 60s most often.

There is a formula to check carb dry matter % from the info printed on the cans. Add up the "guaranteed analysis" percentages on the label for protein, fat, fiber and moisture. Subtract that number from 100 to get the percent of carbs on a wet matter basis. Divide that by .25 to get the kcal % or dry matter basis of carbs.

That may help you find a food that's 10% carbs or less.

Thanks, Vicky

I keep seeing references around about ppl feeding Friskies PATE. The food chart doesn't have any Friskies PATE listed. Is it that the chart just omits the word "PATE" and can I assume that the name on the can with PATE is the the same in the chart w/o pate?

I think they are just referring to the varieties like Classic Chicken Feast, Classic Turkey & Giblets. The "pate" is just a reference to the texture which is like a spreadable pate rather than to the gravy varieties.
