439 0n the relion 8/15 am

He was at 394 3 hours after shot yesterday. 439 is pretty close to 500 on the alphatrak2 I think.
Today is starting his 3rd full day on this shot dose which marks 6 shots of .75 total.
I don't think I'm going to be able to get a reading before 1 today. He is still hungry and acting normal.

Either tonight or tomorrow morning whichever you're more comfortable with take him to 1u. He's getting a good response to the Lantus but still way too high but at least he's pretty flat so I'm not seeing any rebound.

I will up it tonight.
I got my new Alphatrak 2 strips in and I did a side by side test at 7 hours in. 363 relion,460 alphatrak 2. 97 point difference .That is quite a spread.
Not sure if I trust either one.
 
I'll try again...A human meter and the Alphatrak will Never read the same they are different calibrations. You can't compare the two. Its like comparing apples to oranges or fahrenheit to celsius. That's why we have different guidelines for the different meters. No handheld glucometer is going to give you a precise reading. With either meter you can test the same drop of blood three times and get three different numbers. That's why we say pick a meter and stay with it.

Oh,I know they would be different. I was just surprised at how much they varied. I mean 363 is a really bad number,460 is even worse.
The first test that I did using both on same blood showed a 58 point difference between the relion and the alpha at 303Rel, 361Alpha.
On this last test 363 rel,460 alpha with a 97 point difference. I mean, what if both devices are testing him wrong at the same time? Or one is wrong?
What if it's the human one? What if it's the Alphatrak2?
What if both test were inaccurate because of the differences in readings of the same drop using the same meter and 3-4 different strips?
I know it all boils down to ball parking and finding patterns. It's just hard to trust the machines.

I just want to second Mel's suggestion about deciding on a meter. I noticed in a previous post that you want to keep using the AlphaTrak in order to be able to share Obie's numbers with the vet. If you prefer that meter, great. If you prefer the Relion, it might be worth having a conversation with your vet. My vet is fine with us using a human meter and told me that he recommends the AlphaTrack because when he was in vet school human meters needed a lot more blood than animal meters. Obviously, that has changed, but vets are not keeping up with technology developments in human diabetes. Also, AlphaTrak is the only glucometer that is marketed to vets and might be the only one they know about. You're vet might have good reasons for wanting you to use AlphaTrak or he/she might not.

But you are going to drive yourself crazy using two meters. The sooner you pick one, the sooner you can start to trust it.
 
I'm just a nervous cat-dad. :)
I just did a test with the control solution that came with the alphatrak on both meters.
The relion was 112 and the Alpha was 135.
I know I'm going to drive myself crazy with this.
I just fear making a wrong decision.
When I start seeing a bit of blue in his chart, I'll mellow.

i know that you are worried about your baby and i know how you feel but please, please you need to take a deep breathe and relax. you ARE going to drive yourself crazy with all the stress. and remember, your kitty can feel your stress too and he will also be stressed because you are.
so again "breathe" for your sake and for your cat's sake.
"breathe" . : you are doing a GREAT JOB. just relax, let the insulin work, give your kitty a big hug. you are doing a great job taking care of him. i'm just telling you from experience of stressing about this stuff. stress is not good for you and not good for your cat. just take it easy. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: hugs
 
LMAO. love the visual. hahaha. i'm just worried about you cause i know how u feel. like i was about 2 months ago and these guys kept telling me to breathe.
 
It turns out that another member over on the main forum is also struggling to deal with the discrepancies between AlphaTrak and Relion meters.

According to BJM, the general rule is that the AlphaTrak is 30 points higher, but at lower and higher levels might vary as much as 30 to 40%. This is likely why you're seeing the 30 point spread when Obie is in the 200s and the much larger spread when he's up in the 300s.
 
500 again! Alphatrak2 I upped him to 1u last night.
At 3 hours in last night he was at 281 rel and 347 Alpha
He dropped 100 from the preshot on the relion and 32 on the alphatrak.
The relion said "lo" Probably a bad strip or not a good blood sample.
I'm still going to use both meters. I figure more data is better than less data.
