400+ in the curve - time to increase dosage

Did another curve today and all his numbers are 400+ after a period of time with this 1un 2 x dosing. 2 units twice daily in the beginning were to much. After a week of daily midday BG's I did his curve so it is time to raise the AM dosage to 1.5. and take more readings. Thinking I am on the right track and will keep the PM dose the same. So total will be 1.5 + 1.0 daily. 2 months into it now. Simba is such a good kitty putting up with me and our daily medical routine now.

Why not split the difference and do 1.25 units AM and PM. That is what the SLGS method calls for. Due to the nature of the depot, we find it’s better to shoot the same dose in the AM and the PM.

I would strongly encourage you to get some spot checks in the PM cycle too, such as just before going to bed. Many, probably most, kitties go lower at night. It’s entirely possible Simba is going lower at night and bouncing during the day. My Neko once did that for three months in a row, earning reductions at night and high numbers during the day.

Thanks. Same 12hr dosing makes sense but like you said, they are often higher in the daytime. I can read the u-100 syringe with .5 dosing, smaller than that is a guess at best but worth a try.

Just try to be consistent from shot to shot with the 1.25 units. That’s more important than getting it exactly right.

If you can draw up a used syringe to the amount you'd like to give, it really helps to keeping dosages the same. I found with my syringes, the markings were different between them, and once I used a "template", things became stable quickly.
