Pretty high AMPS this morning. Upped Susie's Lantus to 2.25 units this morning.

My vet was not ignoring me. My phone is not working properly as I have a temporary number until I can get my old number back. His office actually called me three times and I didn't know about it until I learned how to pull up messages. I'm going with the Convenia. The Internist I will be seeing says there is nothing wrong with it in a diabetic cat. The compounded liquid antibiotic I could have gotten was Amoxiclav. A combo of Amoxicillin and Clavamox. Sounds like a 1-2 punch. Susie has never had it before. Anyway, my decision is made and, looking back, Susie had Convenia as far back as April 2019 with no known symptoms.

Good Morning Summer! I'm so glad to see you've increased and also very glad to hear that it was all a misunderstanding about the communication (or lack thereof) from your vet.

Good luck with the antibiotic! I hope it helps...

And for what it's worth - I'm happy to hear it was just a 'technical problem' and not really a rude vet or unprofessional behavior...even if you were grumpy with them - healthcare providers see some really grumpy, unhappy people...and it's never - ever appropriate to retaliate with your patients - be they human or animal...i

Thanks, Sue. I feel so much better about my vet. I can be "difficult" at times and it is hard to get conflicting information from folks on this site and my vet. Both have my kitty's best interest in mind but I have to trust my vet to some extent.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the increase does for Susie but don't really expect to see much change before tomorrow. Have a great day, Sue.

Good luck with the increase! Darcy often seemed to respond well to an increase at first and then kept going higher and higher.

I'm relieved to hear that your vet tried to call several times! They probably were wondering why you weren't returning their calls. I kind of thought yesterday that surely there was some mistake/reason why they didn't get back to you. I'm glad to hear it.

I don't believe you are THAT difficult! I can be "difficult" at times, with some people. I don't want to tick off my vet though... we get along very well and she has a lot of respect for me, and I have a lot of respect for her, too. She lets me do what I want for the most part (of course we talk and she gives her recommendations and I give mine and ask her questions and I trust her knowledge)... she knows I fight hard for my animals so she knows what to expect. Man, I'd hate to find a new vet and have to "train" them all over again! Every time I take a foster kitten/cat to the local vet (nearer to home and a little cheaper) he just goes to the back and starts mixing up meds and brings them in to give to me without telling me what he's doing. Once he brought out a syringe to inject into a kitten, and I said... wait, what's that? I didn't want the shot (convenia) and I asked for Clavamox instead... it shocked me that he just started doing things without consulting me first. Now, when I go there, I stop him before he goes to his back room to get meds and I ask what he plans to prescribe. He's also very fond of giving me liquid medicines which I hate giving to my cats as I have had cats where I ended up with more on me than in the cat (Maverick! I could pill him easily though).

Anyway, my main concern is that Susie will start feeling better very soon and will start eating really well for you!

Thanks, Carla. Seems as though Susie bounced again today after the four blues yesterday. Wish I could stop the bouncing so I could get a good idea of what the dose is actually doing.

Susie is felling better and she is eating well. I'm sorry that you have had vets that don't discuss their plan with you before proceeding. I really like my vet(s) and don't want to lose them. I do not always agree with them and my current vet thinks that numbers in the low 200's are not that bad. The other vet I used (in the same office) said to get her numbers in the low 100s but he also didn't address the high ALTs back in December. I am learning to get every lab test and ask my own questions. Sometimes I am torn between the information I get on FDMB and the info I get from my vet. I need my vet though. They are good to me and it is not just Susie that they take care of. I have the two "droolers" too (Kali and Molly Pop). Well, today was truly a momentous occasion. It is the first time in weeks and weeks that Susie has come in to the Florida Room with me and wanted to play with her toys. She even batted my foxhound's nose. She seems to be feeling very good even though her blood sugar has been high and her blood test are not good. I am just so happy to see some of the old Sus back. I hope it lasts. She gets her antibiotic tomorrow.

Thanks for asking about Kali. She is just fine and I will never know what made her so sick. She can be a true "pain in the rear end" but she is also a very sweet dog. Don't ever get a foxhound if you want to live a mellow life. I can't blame her though. It is all "inbred". She seeks out prey and is very prey driven. Will drag me through the yard at 5:45 in the morning if she smells something. Very loud and very demanding but also the smartest dog I have ever owned.

I actually hate phones and conversations on the phone. I have enjoyed these past two weeks of losing my home phone number (temporarily). I am not getting the constant spam calls and the house is so much quieter. Hope some of these spammers go away when there is no one to reach after two or three weeks.

My other pup is my favorite. She is a golden retriever and I swear there is no better dog on the face of the planet. My Molly Pop is 12 and I know I won't have her a lot longer. If you ever decide to get a dog, Suzanne, rescue a golden. I swear they are the sweetest, most loyal dogs you will ever find. I have had three.

Oh yes! My brother had a Golden Retriever named Snickers! I loved Snickers. He was the most wonderful dogs. They are such great family dogs. Of course, they love everyone. I’m sure you’ve seen the cartoon about Goldens licking the burglar. Snickers was from Spain and was very large for a Golden. He was descended from the king of Spain’s dogs. Since then they’ve had Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Border Collies, and now Standard Poodles! They’ve all been such sweet dogs. And they’ve had quite a few cats as well and horses!
