Rather than piggyback on Butthead's condo rental, I chose to open a new one. A few days ago there was a liquipoo explosion here. It's my civvie Holleigh-berri, and she's still pooing that way. Appetite is a bit off, but she will eat some. Butthead has been having some loose poo as well. I called to see if I could get some Fortiflora, but since he is not actively being seen by the vet who removed his original tumors, they said I would have to get it by prescription through Angell in Boston. Our primary vet is a one-man operation who likely does not have it and is not open at this time anyway.

I did pick up some slippery elm since I did a "liquipoo" search and it sounded like that was effective. I will look at eBay/Amazon to order some Fortiflora to have on hand. Until then, what can I do? I'll try the slippery elm, but what about human-type probiotics or stuff like Immodium?

Now on to Donovan. For some time he has had some swelling/lumpiness near his lower lip. It looked a little more swollen yesterday, and this morning I saw that it was starting to bleed. Periodically it seems to express itself of whatever is in there, but I hadn't seen it bleed like this before. I wiped it off and pressed some tissues to it, and then put some antibiotic on it. I'm guessing that it is some sort of infection, which in addition to his bad teeth may be causing his higher BGs recently. But his vet appt for dental and bloodwork isn't until April 19. Should I be more aggressive and try to get him in sooner? (that was the first opening, however). Donovan is otherwise acting fine and eating well. He doesn't seem to have liquipoo (yay).

thanks...

I don't think I'd use Imodium unless you talk to a vet. Cassandra (remember Cassandra?) suggested a human probiotic, ReNew Ultimate. I found it with the refrigerated supplements at Whole Foods. I used about 1/3 of a capsule twice a day. Others have used Culturelle. Yogurt with active cultures may also help. Some folks have also used pumpkin puree (not pie filling) to help with liquipoo.

As for the lip concern, I'd post on Health. Also, if you can take a photo and post it, that may help people with identifying it.

MJ: I am a FIRM    believer in slippery elm. I buy the pure powder and make the syrup. It really soothes the intestines and it works for constipation and liquipoo. The other thing I've used for liquipoo is an herb called agastache. It's wonderful as well. I get it at my vet but you can might be able to get it at any herb/natural food store. Sometimes if the natural gut bacteria goes crazy, they need metronidazole. Not a big fan of that but if their intestinal bacteria has gone wild, it helps. Max once ate some pinto beans (long story) and his clostridium bacteria went crazy...liquipoo that SEB would not help so they gave him metronidazole. Just a thought if the SEB doesn't work. You don't have to make a syrup with the SEB; if you have the capsules, you can just put the contents over food if they'll eat it.

Agree with Sienne on photo and posting on Health regarding Donnie. Sending healing vines to your entire crew.

Thanks, I'll try the slippery elm (alas, her appetite is off, and she was only enticed with forbidden kibble treats...) I'll try to get a photo of Donny's chin asap. At the moment he's sleeping in his Special Underground place.

Ah, Butthead just had the Hershey squirts. Poor guy...

I would try and get Donovan in sooner - in case it is an infection or abscess. You don't want it getting into the blood stream.

I wouldn't use fortiflora for this but a different probiotic. Pure pumpkin can help also.

I am going to be watching Buttheads video's tonight or tomorrow. He will refill some of my heart.

Hi guys, Good luck with the various remedies. Plain yogurt with active cultures can't hurt and might indeed help. I like the Greek yogurts ("Face" plain, zero fat; "Chobani" plain, zero fat). Hope Butthead and Holleigh-berri feel better soon.
If I were you, I would try to get Donovan in to the vet sooner, just to rule out an abcess or infected tooth.
Healing vines to the whole crew,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. I'm not positive, but I think I have seen FortiFlora in PetSmart (in the medications section).

I use Fortiflora, but Culturelle is also good... Check to see if he has any blackhead like thingys, as that's feline acne-Moone has it..She has had them get infected & they were quite annoying & nasty..she needed ab's for it.
Hope it can easily treated..Sending Good Health to all the kitties!

Hi, MJ.. Donovan, Butthead.. all...
I like the idea of a condo daily rather than such a long one ;-)
I have 5 packets of FortiFlora I will mail to you tomorrow.. you should get them by Tuesday.. if you want them? Baby & Sadi are (i think) the only cats who don't like it.
If you would like me to drop them in the mail, please PM me your address.

Guess what?
I just got back from shopping and finding plain canned pumpkin this time of year is Not Easy :-|

re: Fortiflora, I bought some off eBay a little while ago.

Will contact the vet on Monday to see if we can get Donny in sooner.

here he is a few hours ago catching some sunset rays...

I have used Culturelle when I did not have Fortiflora. It worked fine. I think I used a 1/4 capsule. Good luck I hope it clears soon.

This is a pic I took just a while ago. Immediately before the pic, it wasn't oozing like this, and shortly after, it was gone again. It's like a zit that keeps releasing. Ewww. He's had this "thing" for a long time.

I'll also post in Health later.

looks like acne that keeps breaking out....when Rocket gets acne i put a bit of oitment....it's Rx though....not sure you can get your hands on it there without an Rx....it's called "Gel Fuciderm".....i can pm you a picture i took of Rocket when he had it pretty bad and see if that is what you are seeing.....

some kitties are prone to get it when plastic dishes are used....Rocket's dish is ceramic but he still gets it the odd time....i keep that oitment handy....

I would take him in if there is swelling in area around it (not just the pustule) - I'd take him in. Does he have other signs of feline acne like hard black bumps like dirt on his chin? No plastic bowls for feeding if he does.

That sure doesn't look or act like acne. I agree with you, it sounds like an infection but could be something else, like a granuloma. At any rate, the cat needs to be seen and treated by a vet. Thats got to hurt!

oh, goodness...i can't offer anything but healing energy and compassion. for the poor lil buggers...
but sending that in family size waves, MJ!

:-| thanks everyone.
Holleigh-berri still has the runs, and Butthead is squirting yellow/brown liquid (but eating). Donny's PMBG last night was 106 I think (yay). I've been going nonstop at work and have about 30 min to spare now, so I'm gonna call Butthead's vet. This all started after his last appt on Thursday. Weird. Frankly I'm not feeling that great either, but I think it's female stuff (just what I need right now).

Also wanted to mention, for anyone who is reading... these "Remembrance" threads for recent GAs are lovely and touching, but every time I start to read them, I literally break down. It's just too hard for me, especially now, so please it's not that I don't want to contribute. It just hurts too much
