Mornin' fellow crazies!
I'm the head crazy lady today - but I'm happy. Last night after gettting a PM of 144 and then a +2.5 of 56, I thought hmmmm. Same thing the night before - a number in the 50's at +3. I decided to forego some sleep to further investigate and this is what I got:

+2.5 = 56
+4 = 58
+5 = 53
+6 = 40

OMG! I was SOOOOOO happy I almost forgot to feed him! I gave him some 10 carb wet and went btb. Then this AM # was good and I gave NO INSULIN. Am I right to think this it an official start of a trial??????

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

wow! I can't give you advice on trial stuff, but just wanted to say those are some sharp looking numbers!!! Congrats!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

I'm musing out loud, not offering advice here. But I'm interested to see what others say. On the one hand, you have that 40 on just a drop of insulin. That sounds TO ME like trial time if I had to guess. But then, there's the 137 the other day. Now, 137 is in the normal range, so... Anyway, I'll be following this with interest. Best of luck!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

This same thing happened to my Mom's cat Francis. He had some numbers over 100 but if Mom gave him insulin he'd be quickly down to below 50. I'm betting this happened to Boomer Tuesday night also. If I didn't work I could test him like a mad woman. Then I'd become even more obsessed and insane I'm thinking.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

Traci - I am no expert but I don't think you can go any darn lower than one drop  So I would say that this is the start of a TRIAL!!!!! Let's see what others say ;-)

CONGRATS!!!! dancing_cat :RAHCAT

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

Awesome results!!!! I'd KILL for a 47!

Ask and yea shall receive! :-D
:RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT Congratulations! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

Ann-

 That quote is what I thought of!
I couldn't believe it! It was like 1:30 AM and I was half asleep and THRILLED to see that 40. THANK GOD! I've been waiting for a while now. He's been on one drop since March 1st I think.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

So you're giving him a drop now correct? that's considered like a 0.1?

OK, the next step is to give him 0.0. Can you do that? Do you know how? NO - well, I'll tell you.

You get the insulin out of fridge
you take it to cat
you show it to cat
then you return it to fridge

Can you do that?

After you do that for a couple cycles, and he still has low numbers, then you can go on trial.....what do you say?

The other way to give 0.0 - follow above instructions and wave the bottle over cat's head then return to fridge - the bottle not the cat! ;-)

Oh my I'm getting giddy here!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

That is great news Traci.
No shot today!!! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT
Similar to how Max and I stated trial last weekend.
Paws crossed today is a go.

Oh and by the way, sleep is so overrated. Terrific job last night for catching it.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

Hillary-

OMG - so funny.

<<So you're giving him a drop now correct? that's considered like a 0.1?>>

I am here to say that there is nothing smaller than ONE DROP...and if there is, I'm NOT DOING IT! @-)

Does everyone out there hear me?

No half drops, no fractions, no lantus air molecules, no shaved drop, no fat lantus air, no counting micro drops, no skinny 0.1! I'm done!

My vet would tell me to stop with insulin, but she's the easy one, right?

I'm waiting for the toughies to show up in my condo.

Sienne? Libby? CD? Jill? What say you? Can I try? If I do and he fails, will it hurt his progress? Please weigh in before I lose my mind!!!!! nailbite_smile

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

Hi Randi-

YES, sleep is overrated right now. Seeing that 40 was worth it.
Thanks for the support.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

Hey Traci - you can change your subject to "Is it time for OTJ Trial?"

You are too funny   Air molecules, fractions doses!!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75 plus huge action last night!!!!

Way to go Boomer (and Traci too!)! And I'm totally    at Hillary! I can't wait until I can show Max the bottle and put it back in the fridge!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

I just put a shout out for Boomer's devoted Team to make a stop by.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

What an exciting night :)..

I will say, some non-diabetic people have BGs all over the place.. sometimes high, sometimes low.. myself? I'm a rock.. whether I eat, don't, am tired, am not, sick, healthy, etc.. doesn't matter.. all the times I have tested, I'm between 100 and 110.. where as my husband varies quite a bit.. I think some people and cats are just all over the place.. and some aren't..

Boomer seems to enjoy traveling.. if you do get the go ahead to OTJ.. on top of whispering lantus in his hear (one day, when Nova gets there, I've decided this is the 0.0 method I like best ;) ) or whichever 0.0 method you choose.. you should also stock up on a treat for yourself.. because I expect it to be a teeeny bit of an emotional rollercoaster for you..

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Thanks D.
I'm so anxious.
But wait - even if "they" say it's a trial, I still have to test him and see the numbers.
That's scarier!!!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

OH Pish Posh! I can't believe you won't micro molecule or give an air shot or anything like that - and guess you won't even consider 1/2 a drop either then - huh?

So, let's see what will you consider?

Wrigley's? Hubba Bubba? Bazooka? Dentyne? Trident?

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

traci I'm so excited for you guys! I even told mocha about it .. about how boomer is kickin' the juice .. and all the cool cat's do that ... she says she isn't ready to kick her security blanket yet, but she is soooo looking forward to an OTJ party!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Hi Devon-

Thanks for caring and being so nice. He's 3 and a half and so far he has had IBD, chronic pancreatitis and diabetes. His CP is supposedly gone, I don't know if IBD can be cured. I hope he can do this. He's been sick since he was about 6 months old. I want him to live to a ripe old age, you know?

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

awww .. he's certainly had a rough life in the medical area .. but he sure does have one loving momma ... he will get through this ... :RAHCAT

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Looks like those higher numbers might have been bounces. I say go for it! If the trial doesn't work, we give him some more help, no big deal.

Try to stay with the multiple small meals, that seems to have made a nice difference for Boomer.

Congratulations!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Well.....that's it!!!

Great news for you and Boomer!!!!n Congrats on the (shhhhh) Hubba Bubba Trial

Oh My GOD!!!!!! Thank you! :-D

I thought the higher numbers may have been bounces too but I didn't want to be too presumptuous! I'm happy to at least get a shot at it. If it doesn't go as planned at least he's close.

Yup you do so you better start practicing "the hold your breath while the meter counts down"
Too bad I never liked to swim.

Or, I really like the wave the bottle over Boomer and put it back in the fridge.
Maybe you can do an Abra Cadabra or something.
Pull a rabbit out of his ear.

Okay we are laughing and I know how you feel.
I had it all planned based on the dosing and days... when Max might be ready for Gum Day
and well, you know when you plan, our kitties have others.
Its like the last time I was able to pick my older DD up (she is 15) No one tells you its going
to be the last time so remember it always. It's just over and on to the next phase.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Congrats Traci - so happy for you guys. Well deserved! Yai more party countdowns!

How is your DBF's drooler doing?

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Thanks CD and Ronnie!

Ronnie, first off, I love that picture of Luna. I din't think I've ever seen him without the Looney Tunes thing around him. He's QUITE handsome.

BF's drooler is hanging in there amazingly enough. She has an adrenal tumor that is over taking her vena cava and one kidney. The vet wouldn't operate. She told Dave that she was surprised that Princess was up and walking around. Since the terminal dx, she's been fine. They go on walks every day and she isn't displying any symptoms. He's keeping her comfortable and I've been sending long distance Reiki daily for over two months. It's tough because although it's great that she's doing well, his life is COMPLETELY on HOLD because the vet made it seem like she could pass at any second, so he's afraid to do anything. We know two others whose dogs have died recently (and quickly) from this. (one from FDMB). Our pet issues have put a big strain on our relationship and that's one of the reasons I'm happy that Boomer may be better - it will free me up to have more of a life again.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Congratulations! This is such an achievement for a kitty with health issues. I'm so happy for you.

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

April graduate would be nice. We'll see.

Can we please review the "normal" number range I'm looking for during the trial?
I know I've seen it but I can't remember where it is.
What's the highest number he can get now? @-)
Can you tell I'm scared? The PM number is always his highest. EEEEKKKK!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

(((Traci & Boomer))) Awesome stuff here!!! :RAHCAT soooooo excited for you & cheering you both on!!!

Re: 4/8 Boomer AM - 75, OTJ Trial?

Okay so can you take the question mark out of your subject line already.

I believe it has been answered so GO FOR IT!!!!!

"normal numbers" are 60-120, I believe.
One day at a time.
Have a look at the other "trials" going on now.
Max, Hank & Smokey

We are rooting for you.

Betty-

You are awfully sweet! Thank you, thank you.

He's 103 tonight which is *lower* than the last 7 nights on insulin. Pretty freaky, huh?
I'm so freakin' nervous. I've been doing so much reiki on him...I even sneak distance treatments from work and while I'm on the train. I'm OBSESSED!

I think this thread has the most replies I've ever gotten since I've been on this board! It feels so good that you all care!!!!! You guys (and my Mom - because of Francis) are the only ones who know what this process is like. nailbite_smile

And regarding the off insulin normal numbers: I thought 80-120 is for cats ON insulin, no?

Test him a couple hours after the PMBG and eating to see if it went down. Just a thought if you are worried

Now you know how many people read your condo's every day :).. I read a lot of them.. but don't always see a need or have time to post support/random thoughts.. but we're always all here.. lurking! :)
