Hello All! I hope you all had a great weekend!

Not much news to report here. Tyler seems to be bouncing a little from those greens the other day, but seemingly, not quite as high as last time. I think I'll learn that liver of his in good time. Meanwhile, I have been getting better at the 4:45 amps test. When I first started his SS, in the mornings, I felt drunk and unable to properly function, and getting out of bed was a reluctant task... to visually put it, I was all like:

But now I'm becoming sort of a pro at it, and things are looking up for us, and I owe it all to all you fine folks here at the FMDB! Now Tyler doesn't have to go to the vet as often, which is good for us both, I hated putting him in the carrier, and he hated going to the vet... poor buddy, look how scared he was on his last visit

Re: 4/7 Tyler AMPS 282 +7 91 hey, Mr. Green!!!

Went home for lunch and was surprised by a high greenie! Sweet Apples!!!

That green is wicked good on my eyes!!

Re: 4/7 Tyler AMPS 282 +7 91 hey, Mr. Green!!!

Tyler, you look really good in green. How 'bout hangin' out there for a while?

Great to see the green, Brian. I know it's frustrating when it doesn't show up for several days!

Re: 4/7 Tyler AMPS 282 +7 91 hey, Mr. Green!!!

What a nice surprise!!

Kind of makes you think about how lucky you were before you came here, doesn't it? I find it hard to believe you gave up to 7 units before!!

Good thing the Lord looks out for fools and children (and sugarcats) isn't it? :-D

Now we just got to give Mr. Liver a crash course in what normal numbers really are!! HEY MR. L!!! Normal is 50-120...not what you've gotten used to!

Tyler's looking good, Brian!

Re: 4/7 Tyler AMPS 282 +7 91 PMPS 402!!! RED?!

WHAT THE HECK?! HOW ARE WE IN THE RED THIS EVENING?!

I totally don't understand what is going on... Green to Red?! How, why, what the... is that dangerous? I have to go to class in an hour. Should I be worried?

Re: 4/7 Tyler AMPS 282 +7 91 PMPS 402!!! RED?!

BOING!!!

It's quite possible that Tyler dropped even lower than the 91 at +7, so he's bouncing. He could also be bouncing off the 91

Is there ANY chance he got into any contraband? That's another option for the high number

This too shall pass, Brian! We all hate them, but bounces are just part of the dance!

Re: 4/7 Tyler AMPS 282 +7 91 PMPS 402!!! RED?!

Bounces are SO frustrating, aren't they?! We've been there too!!

I assume Chris told you to get some patient pants? They're a necessity! Don't worry, he'll come back down.

Tyler, red does not look good on you, buddy!

Well, you guys... I freaked out earlier, I hadn't seen a number in the 400's since the night I decided to take action and make my first post here. So yeah, I almost had a heart attack, I ain't gonna lie!!! :o

So he's come down now, and I probably have as well. I have a lot going on as you all know. I mentioned the stress from my work closing... Finals are in a few weeks, I have to get ready to uproot myself and move to new city with no job lined up. So things have been a little scary because I have a diabetic cat (huge shocker, I know), which costs a lot of money! So it has me freaking out a tad, luck was on my side, to where I needed to take on a roommate and someone from my second job needed a place to crash, so this weekend I took on a roommate, and that will cut my expenses in half and give me plenty of money to save for some cushion when I move. My goal is to have 1-2 month's worth of rent, cat food, & diabetic supplies so Tyler can keep getting the care that he has been receiving...

Also, it will be about a 5 hour ride, so I have a question, has anyone had to move or travel with their diabetic kitty? Should I sedate him to keep him from having a bad experience?

Looks like Tyler is breaking that bounce quick!

Of course he's breaking it a little TOO quickly too! Dropping almost 200 points in 3 hours is a dive!

Cool on the roommate...Maybe you'll get some help with testing Tyler too when you're not able to be around?

No worries on the freak out..we've all done it at least once!

Hi Brian - that red was barely red but I'm glad it's in your rear view mirror now.

I've done some travel with Neko. She had stereostatic radiation therapy for her acromegaly in Fort Collins Colorado, which was 3 days each way of 9 hours in the car. Julie/Punkin did the same trip from a bit closer. Ella/Rusty travels regularly by car to New York City with Rusty, Dyana/JD flies with JD to visit her father, and Sienne just moved from Chicago to Columbus. So, it's all doable. One of our members wrote a document on traveling with a diabetic cat. Lisa had an out of town job she used to drive to and from each week.

I was terrified of the trip to Colorado - Neko complained on the 10 minutes trip to the vets. I used Rescue Remedy for Pets (a couple drops in her food in the morning), sprayed the inside of her carrier with Feliway Spray, and made sure she had lots of blankets with her smell as well as her favorite bed and toy in the car. Luckily it all worked out, and Neko is now a great traveler. Of course we had fun times on the road with testing her, her going low in the middle of nowhere and having to feed HC. Lisa's Leo was not such a good traveler. You might want to try a few short trips with Tyler before hand to see what kind of traveler he is.

Oh yeah, not a great navigator. Him & Marla both. The vet is a block away, hates it. Every time I have to travel out of town I take them to my mother's. That's about a 40 minute ride. They have also been transported from Panama City to Orlando and back, which is about a six hour trip, one way. Marla usually has a BM outside of the litterbox (and she has permanent & very nuclear diarrhea) and sometimes cries herself to the point of vomiting. Tyler just gets anxiety & meows. Neither of them are quiet for more than 30 seconds. All that stresses me out pretty bad because I'm driving & they sure as heck are stressed!

I just don't want to have him get into some bad numbers on the road!!!!! But believe me, I am not the type of person who believes in the use of pharmaceuticals for everything. As I type this, there is a pill commercial playing peaceful music while it lists all the terrible side effects!!! What is wrong with this world?! Any who...

I wouldn't give him a sedative. It can actually make them more aggravated and cry a lot. I'd follow Wendy's suggestions and try the rescue remedy (be sure you get the kind for pets without alcohol) and I'd try some short trips before you attempt the long one.

hi brian!

yes, we drove 21 hrs each way to Colorado with punkin and our civvie (non-diabetic) Anya. It was a long trip, but basically they slept under the driver's seat the whole way. we have a camry, and there's only one way to get from the back seat to the front, and that's going over the armrest between the front seats. so we let them be out. punkin went nuts being put in a carrier and would try to dig his way out. we took harnesses and leashes for both cats - we did take carriers but mostly didn't use them. with 2 of us, whoever wasn't driving got to keep the cats out of the front. anya was certain the way out of the car was in front of the steering wheel on the dashboard.

anya is an anxious little thing and she was open-mouth panting. we gave both of them Rescue Remedy - it made anya sleep and it does help. punkin was a mellow guy, so he mostly was either sleeping or watching out the window.

for cats that get carsick, covering the carrier with a towel so they can't see outside can be helpful. we had a litter box on one side of the floor of the back seat. the other side was where they hung out.

here is a pic of punkin under the driver's seat (from the back).

here is one of our fav pics from the trip. people here captioned it, and the caption that "stuck" was "I SAID 2 CHEESEBURGERS, EXTRA RARE!"

we had taken both cats on hour trips before - it was so-so at the beginning but they always settled down. they were crying for the first hour when we headed out to colorado, but after about an hour or so, they went to sleep and were really fine for the rest of the trip. we shot punkin in the car a few times, and fed both of them there when we needed to. it worked.

punkin always cried on the way to the vet's also. he was always silent on the way home from there.

btw, i was getting psychic vibes from tyler - he says he's afraid at the vet's. look at that little face! poor little buddy.
