Trix continues to seem to feel well - and I continue to be a bit anxious about saying that out loud...so anti-jinx! Her appy is happy (complete with Mannie Fuds Danes), we've actually been having an easy go with gelcaps (anti-jinx), she's snuggly and bright-eyed and hunting for adventure. Anti-jinx. Nice AMBG, so no follow-up pokey again!

I don't have any "real" updates about my Dad yet. We do have an appointment with his onc today, and he took his last AB Sunday night. They weren't able to get the follow-up chest CT scan scheduled until Thursday. When I talked to my Mom last night, I could tell she was trying to blow sunshine. She and I are a bit at odds over the AB being the cause of his current condition - she is convinced that it's the cancer, even though his very recent CT scan showed the cancer is stable, even though I've shown her the list of AB side effects and how he has 99% of them, even though the AB/pneumonia is the one thing that has changed since the last CT scan (almost 3 weeks ago). I know she is just fearing the worst and that is natural, but it is still frustrating me, because I could use some back-up when speaking to the doctor today. More than anything, I just want him to know how my Dad reacted to the AB so that he's not given it again in the future. Anyway, she I think she was just trying to divert me, and I know that last night was way too soon for that AB to have cleared his system. So we'll see....

With that, I do need to start moving. I hope that I can regain my wits enough to start visiting again soon...I've just been so very distracted, but always thinking about my L&LL family.

Have a great day,everyone!

Amy

Prayers and vines for you your DF and DM. I think and hope that the doctors will receptive to your concerns whether or not your DM backs you up. I also bet she will back you up if she hears it's not the cancer and so will the docs. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Adding more prayers. I hope you get some answers and the doctor listens to your concerns. :bighug::bighug:

I'm glad Trixie is doing so well so you don't have to worry about her.

As you know, I've been very absent from FDMB so I didn't know about your dad. I'll keep him and the rest of your family in my prayers that he kicks the big C in the derriere. It's good to see Trixie is still OTJ and doing well. Thinking about you!!

Trixie knows. Yup, she knows the bean needs some good-kitty action from the girl. Look at her respond.

Just more vines, Amy, that all the moving parts and parties to your dad's treatment fall into place. Answers. Solutions. Reassurance.

Just got back from the doc a little while ago. Overall, a pretty decent visit for a change of pace (relative term, of course). My Dad is still slammed, but Dr L felt he looked better than he did last week. All of the cultures they drew blood for last Friday were negative AND his tumor marker, which had risen to draws in a row (over the course of 6 weeks) are now at the lowest they have ever been. They had gone from 600 before Hawaii to 740 (right after Hawaii) to 1000 right before he landed in the hospital. They are now 366. They started at 24,000.

My Dad did go over all of his symptoms and said they all started when he began the Levaquin (he's the on the same page as I am in thinking the Levaquin is a big cause here), but didn't stress the Levaquin too much. When Dr L said he was baffled by my Dad's situation, I offered my "layman's"opinions that my Dad was experiencing Levaquin toxicity. Dr L kept a poker face and didn't really offer an opinion either way, because there is no way to know for sure - although my gut is pretty positive on that. Dr L DID seem to listen, though. And he does take notes the whole time....maybe he noted that I'm crazy, or maybe he noted my observation. I didn't push it TOO hard, but I planted the seed, and if it comes up in the future, I won't hesitate to voice my opinion.

He also was confused by the drop in tumor marker after the two rises (even though the scans showed no change with the cancer), so I once again asked if I could offer my layman's opinion on that. He was receptive....so I said that I always have to research things, and when the markers started going up, I found that both pneumonia and diabetes can cause them to rise. Now that both are resolved/being resolved, the markers are going down. Again, pretty much a poker face but seemed interested and made notes.

They are still doing the CT scan on Thursday, because at this point, they just might as well do it.

We are hoping he'll be ready for chemo next week, but he wants to gain back some weight before doing it. Hopefully the Levaquin will work its way out quickly (I don't know if that will be the case) and his appetite will come back soon. So I don't know if chemo will happen next week or not - but he definitely has an appointment on Tuesday that I would like to go to. He's definitely still pretty tattered right now.

AND...Miss Trix greeted me at the door with a happy appy and snuggles when I got back. Off to fold some laundry now....this was my last day off until sometime next week.

Good girl Trix, no extra worries for your bean.

Fantastic news on your dad's tumor markers. Sometimes the why is not so important. Are you saying your dad's diabetes is resolved?

At the moment it is "controlled" - he is hitting the target ranges set by his endocrinologist, but he's still on insulin and metformin. He just started this routine 2 weeks ago....between the cancer, the steroids the pneumonia, and a genetic predisposition to diabetes, he's got so many factors coming into play, whether or not he'll get to go OTJ remains to be seen! But it was pretty quick and easy to get him regulated, so that is a good sign!

Good news on dad!! Who cares if the doctor was scribbling notes that said "daughter is crazy", "possible AB toxicity?" or he was drawing naked pictures of his wife? At least he seemed to listen to you and not "poo poo" your concerns

Good girl Trixie!! Keep up those pretty numbers for your mama so she has one less thing to worry about!

wish i could find a good cartoon for dr. poker face....

glad to hear better news...

I'd say your dm is just trying to brace herself..... if your pessimistic ( i tend to be) then bad news isn't as shocking....

sending hugs and scritches....

Good Girl Trixie!! Mamabean needs all of your cooperation!
You might be surprised--some doctors actually do listen - so I am glad you had your say with your dad's doctor! Great news for your dad- sending continuing prayers and vines!! :bighug::bighug:

Hi Amy,
I'm glad to hear this good news about your dad's markers and hope that they will continue to go down. Keep on bringing your findings to the doctor's attention. Golly, you could go to medical school with all that you are learning:)!

Have a good evening and a week with less stress,

Ella & Rusty
p.s. to Trixie: keep on helping your mamabean!

Sending vines to your dad for lots more good news. I'm glad Trixie is feeling better! (antijinx) I hope you can kick back and enjoy an adult beverage or two or three tonight.

I love the way you talk about dads diabetes - just like he's a cat - which of course is a huge compliment to any mere bean!

I'll bet the doctor was making notes to go and look up the things you spoke of - well I hope he was otherwise he may as well quit now!

Great Trixie report - her AMBGs have been so good lately too :)
