That would be a good thing, except..
The test was 10min AFTER the shot. :blackeye: My lancet device broke last night. I managed the 99 freehand, but he is a squirmy biter as soon as he feels the slightest poke. This morning he just wouldn't do it and I finally gave up and gave the shot, of course he's going to be the same as every other morning right:eek::banghead::blackeye:
Now I need to go find an new lancet device because I need to be testing a lot today...

I don't know what is going on with this boy today...

Our vet visit went FABULOUS. It is the same vet Cecil had. She saw it was us who have Sly and was so happy. Said they don't need to see him anymore for the diabetes, we know what we are doing. His eye ulcer no longer holds stain so that is fabulous too. It looks like he may always have a scar on his eye from the ulcer. The bad (?) thing is she said she felt more comfortable with us giving him his meds so she wants to continue all the eye meds for a while longer to see if we can get the scar healed a bit more. The crazy schedule continues.:coffee:

Sly is currently behind my desk at my office. Little stinker thinks its an awesome place and won't come out for nothing.

Did you increase this morning or is that a typo?

I think this is the first time I have visited your condo.

It looks like you have been aggressively increasing the last few days, is there a specific reason for that. I see that you have had other diabetic kitties, so I am sure you no the ropes.

Could the rise after AMPS this morning possibly be that you have reached an optimal dose, and possibly passed it? If the dose wasn't a typo and you did increase, I probably would have held the 2.25u dose after seeing GREEN last night, but maybe you know something I don't.

I did increase this morning. The plan when we brought him home was to have him go to 2.5 since he had been at 2U for a long time. With the food change I didn't want to make the change at that time, but was doing it though a 0.25 adjustment every 6 cycles until we got there. With his AMPSs always over 300 and his am cycles pretty high despite food changes, I (obviously) did not expect today's numbers.
Trifecta of CRAP! A dose increase, a broken lancet device, and a sudden change in numbers. Everyone can now use Sly's spreadsheet as an example of why you don't shoot without testing. If I had gotten the test in this morning before the shot, I probably would have held off on a dose increase. But if he had been over 300 in the AM yet, I don't think the PM green would have made me not increase. Without this mornings numbers, he still looked like he needed more insulin to me. I am not as experienced as many of the old-timers on the boards and do freely admit my patience pants don't fit very well.

Oh my goodness Sly, that's not nice to bite mamabean! Tiger is afraid of the lancing device so I had to learn freehand since day one. :D:D Look at all that green - the poop may have been the answer! Great vet report- glad to hear his ulcer is healing! His AMPS had been pretty consistent, don't beat yourself up- he's doing great and so are you! :bighug::bighug:

Thanks Ruth. He's had a fabulous day of numbers despite the blundering into it :D I don't like it when I don't follow my own rules and get caught!!;)

He's had a very stressful day being away from the house most of it, so that may have held him up. He is likely at home passed out in his chair thankful to be back there.

I have two of my trusted lancet devices ordered and on their way here. Sly does very well with the device because it is quick. We freehanded early on and Jason stayed freehanding longer than me. Its been years since I had to do it. I had a couple other lancet devices at home that I thought would be ok backups since they were backups to the backup. But they sucked. I <3 my Accu-chek Multi-clix. I picked up a Fast-clix this morning, but it is not nearly as easy to use. Apparently this girl is only as good as her lancet device:)

On a fun note, our shelter has ANOTHER diabetic cat in. Sly must have figured he better get done with this business. Lines forming behind him.
